Changes To Pandorapress

This could be quite funny... I mean no one wants to start a war... except for maybe the Americans and the british, lol
But they picked a site with some rather talented people connected to it in one way or another... Talk about poking a big angry dog with a stick...

No one is suggesting revenge... except perhaps me... and the Americans but we`ve actually invaded for less...

I wouldnt be surprised if their site goes down in the near future, I just wish I knew how to do it!

as this are just simple script kiddies, just create a VoLc4n0@gmail.com email addy and send their prominent / boss a mail telling their login fails with a cookie savig url ^^

Loool created one for you! user : Volc4n00 pass 2x: "Volc4n00"

Fixed. Pretty sure it was a Wordpress exploit. Don't think they managed to bruteforce my SSH password. The index.php file was replaced.

Code's here if anyone wants it.

Glad it's fixed! It's the only true news source for me.

Ohwell.. vurnerabilities is a bummer when it comes to opensource (lol 99% of the time it's a backdoor)

Uh... no it's not. Things get hacked whether they're opensource or not. It's virtually impossible to make anything of sufficient complexity bug free, and this has absolutely nothing to do with whether the code is available or not.

Quick! Do a WHOIS! Geolocate! Trace! Google-fu!
With all this combined information, we can do... nothing!

Bump! Thread is back, now with 78% less hackers. Back to the topic, a summary of some of the suggestions:

> Maybe a category for Hacks (hardware and software)
I think this would fall under the Projects category. Projects will include hardware mods, custom peripherals, specialised software applications etc.

> tutorials
Definitely. rabidpoobear is on the list to write some tutorials, and I'll happily accept consequence_9's offer too (I'll get back to you guys soon). In terms of site navigation I'll set it up so that there's a tutorials index page, so they don't get lost in the noise.

> reviews
Of course! When I'm a bit more organised I'll put the call out for reviewers too.

> category for UMPC/productivity
Very good idea. This is one area that has seen very little coverage on the blog (because there hasn't been much to report) but I know there is a lot of interest in it.

> a section for firmware and OS updates
Yep, good idea.

> links to related resources in articles (eg. legal Amiga downloads)

I like this. If only we had a precompiled list of such resources. Oh, we do. Thanks Prometheus. :) http://www.gp32x.de...tion-resources/

> link to buying a pandora
It's really only two clicks to this information (Official Site -> Where To Buy) but yeah, a lot of people just ask instead of clicking. Maybe it's a matter of adding more information to the same link, eg. "Official site, incl. purchase information."

> dflemster's suggestions (improved web technologies, SEO, RSS optimisation etc)
As always, valuable advice and I'm taking it all on board. Obviously though, this is a whole other level of blog changes and something I'll have to put on the backburner for now. My primary goal here is usability of the site itself, and that comes down to categorisation and navigation.

Trevsweb also mentioned SEO. Is this something I really should worry about? (serious question). I'm not interested in playing the traffic game for the sake of hits. If we're talking about bringing realistic benefits to the project (more outside developers?) then it's a discussion we should have and I'll take it all in. I just don't want to turn Pandorapress into some sort of marketing exercise, which is what I think when I think SEO.

FYI our headlines are already going out on this Twitter account: http://twitter.com/openpandora (set up by DJWillis).

Glad to be of service. :)

Unfortunately, Back to the Roots (by far the best legal Amiga resource, in my view) is down at the moment - hopefully it'll be back up before the Pandoras start shipping.

Are you referring to http://www.back2roots.org ?
if so, they've been down since 2004...
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.back2roots.org
(link won't work apparently because of the double http)

Whilst there is an article out there from around 2004 that notes that the site's down, I was nabbing stuff from the site from about the middle of last year, until last month. They added Superfrog not too long ago (now both them and Dream17 carry that one).

EDIT: And it's still at the top of the Google results, which I don't think it would be if it had been gone for that length of time.

EDIT 2: I should clarify, I checked my links before ever adding them to my list. :p

The server can still be accessed via FTP with anonymous read-only access. If you can figure out how to traverse their directories, you should still be able to download stuff. I think. Maybe.
