I think I'd rather just stick to CS. Oh, by the way, for what it's worth, I HAVE used Game Maker to write a few simple games in the past. Most are either lost to time or bumming around as incomplete engines, but I think two or three of them are online.
Link them here. :)

Windows only, unfortunately.

Made this when I was 13 and an immature moron.

Then there's these. The first was made in 2008, the second around then as well, the third might date to 2006.

I'll dig around for what's on my SSD as well if you'd like. I had a lot of unfinished engines on my old computer, but they're all gone now. I'll bet my ADD had something to do with them lying around.

Pity that they are windows only - I can't play them...

what are you doing at the forums, BP? Go port games!! You have a future!

Patience, young-but-less-so-than-me grasshopper. My time will come; but first, let's make sure that it does. College is when I go into overdrive mode. For now, I'm gonna finish my junior year in high school, kick ass in my senior year (three AP classes, by the way), and secure my entry into Stony Brook University.

Student Loans = modern indentured service

If you have a full scholarship or mommy/daddy have coin this does not apply.

You know, you would be able to do a pretty good c/c++ if you would have spend the time of those 17XX postings on learning it. Do it. You don't need a teacher, just the internet.

He puts a good point out there BPM. I made a wii remote + nunchuk two years ago control a robot arm using GlovePIE ( It was a Scorbot, I don't recall the model number. )

I learned to do that in a few weeks, and thats close to C/C++ from what I've understood. Not that hard to pick up on.

Sounds like BP wants to continue playing games and hanging out on the forums to me!

Really though BP making stuff is a very rewarding process, and it looks good on your resume when you finally get a job in CS. No one likes people that have no real world experience. I just read an article complaining about how this dev team hates to hire noobs straight out of college. They have to rewrite all of their code and they are a drag on the team.

And the others are right about student loans, the way to go is scholarships, parents money, or working while you are earning a degree. Student loans are a NIGHTMARE, you can't even get rid of them if you go bankrupt! If you have money troubles at some point then student loans can take money DIRECTLY out of your paycheck BEFORE you get it :( Yuck!

Besides, if you start now you will learn more because you will have been doing it for longer. Don't feel like high school is all important, there is a lot more to the world than those buffoons will lead you to believe. The sooner you start on what you really want to do the better. Don't let school get in the way of your education.
