RICONOTE: These tools are for the GP32! But stay tuned!

For those wishing to create and remake games, yet have little to no programming skill, or just get plain frustrated trying to do it on the GP32, there are alternatives!

We have excellent game script engines for the GP32. Now first, what is a "game script" engine you ask? Lemme briefly explain. A game script engine uses a text file containing "keywords" which form a game. This is obviously 100x easier then trying to learn a programming language AND getting it working on the GP32 (which is not the ideal development platform to the newbie coder). Why spend hours upon hours with frustrating results when you could have a cool game in far less time that may even have cross-platform compatibility! (meaning it can be used on more then one platform)

More about cross-platform compatibility. Unless you're a master coder, your program will probably only work on the GP32. So if your only interest is making something within the power of our existing game engines, why not just use a game scripting engine? You will have the same end results as programming it yourself (even learning a new language, except a scripting one instead of programming) and have the luxury of allowing your non-GP32 laden friends to play it on their PCs!

I reccomend ZOT and VNS depending which game you want

Fenix is alot harder than ZOT or VNS but ZOT and VNS are for a set type of game.

VNS will let u do Graphic novel, Interactive storys, Adventure games, Quiz games and quite a bit more.

ZOT was orignally built for a Gauntlet style game then evolved into what it is now (and still evolving same with VNS)

ZOT can let you do a topdown game, Platform game, Asteroids game basiclly most standard games.

It has alot of features which im not gonna go through but here is a list of games it can create so you get an idea.

Asteroids
RPG Games like Seceret of Mana
Mario/Commander Keen
Car Racing like Mirco machines

theres alot it can do so depending on your game i reccomend these 2 systems.

Of course for more complex games or games you can't make with ZOT or VNS Fenix is the answer.

Also ZOT plays on PC, MAC, GP32, PALM/Zodiac and linux (think it can on linux).

Probably Fenix.

I'd love to make a Monkey Island style "SCUMM" game. As SCUMVM is an interpreter is there any way to put together stuff to run on it? Also then any results would be playable on all sorts of platforms...

I would love working out the story and making the scenes and characters etc but don't have much coding experience...

Does anyone have a link for Zot? The Zot site is down, and doing a search on google I couldn't find a download for Zot. If anyone knows of one that'd be great, or if anyone has the file on their computer and could either e-mail it, or attach it to a post it would be much appriciated.

Thanks

It's working for me now as well. When I tried it last night it was a dead link, not sure if it was down or if it was just my computer.. :)

Can some one helpe me?
Which thing do I download on the Zot! homepage?
I downloaded the Windows thing but all I get is a game. I don't want that game I want to make my own! Help me!!!! gp32_console gp32_console gp32_console

"While it is theoretically possible to write a new game that uses ScummVM it is not advisable. ScummVM has many hacks to support older games and no tools geared towards creating content usable by ScummVM. Potential game authors are encouraged to look at open source technologies such as libSDL for a cross platform DirectX like library, and the Lua and Python scripting languages for game logic."

off www.scummvm.org

there is a program that does create games like it though it's called adventure game Studio http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/ were you can make your own games but you carn't put them in scumm or run them on your gp32

Cheers Spaz O Mataz, that's a real shame, a SCUMM creation utility would be great as lots of people could create stuff that could be run on loads of platforms! I wonder if any SCUMM fanatics will ever look into it? Even if it could only handle simple stuff it would be great as people gradually play the games SCUMM supports and look for others...

...The AGS looks interesting too although I have a Mac... :-(

Remake games for GP32 is a festive idea cause GamePark is the best handheld out there by compairson to the others that have bad speed and eat batteries like candy.

All classic games should be for GP32 including PC/Mac and new games wouldn't hurt either.

Out of curiosity...since this topic is in the GP2X section, does that mean these editors will work on the GP2X? If not...why is it here >_>. I downloaded GIGAs just now and it was in the .fxe extension, I didn't think that was GP2X. Can someone clarify this for me?

This forum was originally for the GP32, but we decided to bring it back for the GP2X. It's not worth having a different cool ideas forum for each console, so consider this a forum for both consoles that happens to focus on GP2X. Most of the simpler ports will run on both systems, too :)

To clarify: this thread is more than a year old, so it's safe to say the -current- links are for GP32 :) As soon as GP2X game creation tools come into being, I'll update it.
