Grand Theft Auto V

I've heard quite a bit talk of the PS3 having the edge in terms of performance & visuals (not just on PS3 forums) anyone know more about this..?

I can't really see it being the case though, as the PS3 in my experience generally suffers in cross platform releases due to it's bespoke Cell architecture & if memory serves the last Rockstar offering Red Dead Redemption ran poorly & looked significantly worse than the XB360 version.
Red Dead Redemption on PS3 is quite playable but had significant geometry and texture detail reduced. There's a really good head to head somewhere, Eurogamer maybe? Shows the differences between 360 and PS3 quite vividly.

Yeah looks big when overlaid with the previous maps, looks great.

I'm resisting getting this on launch and thinking of picking it up now on the PS4 ... probably parting with the Wii U to part fund that console.

I liked this GTAV map overlay someone posted there:

:)

^Have they announced GTAV on any next gen system yet?

They were recruiting for PC programmers recently to 'port existing titles', leading to speculation that a PC port would make an Xbox One / PS4 version more or less inevitable. How could they resist, once the userbase is there to buy it all over again (with enhancements!).

Well, the embargo on reviews has ended, and as they start appearing you'll be glad to know they're overwhelmingly positive!

There's a caution for over-enthusiastic installers though:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-09-16-rockstar-warns-dont-install-gta5-xbox-360-play-disc

Disc 1 is the install disc, you don't install with the dashboard, the game will do this itself.

Disc 2 should not be installed (as is your option, via dashboard as usual) to the same drive, as the dual streaming that was intended can cause problems when both images are on the same drive - so if you want to install, put disc 2 on a USB drive instead. Disc 2 will still need to be present in the drive, of course.

Some of the reviews flooding in - all glowing:

Yeah, I had no doubt the ratings would be high(or higher), than the last.

I tried GTA 4 for a few hours, but it never grabbed me. This one looks to have more interesting characters, so I may give it a go somewhere down the line, but I'm in no rush.

The game doesn't reward exploration that much thus far. I miss that about the older GTAs. And "pimping" you car out can be quite the mistake. Spent 200k on an Infernus, only to start a mission which involves a helicopter, to never see my Infernus again. I did make it to a Amry base once, but was quickly blown away by a tank :{

How do you avoid this? Had you garaged your car afer pimping it, or gone straight from the 'shop to the mission?

ya you can save your car if you garage it, but then dont take that car to the mission, take another :/ all in all, a lot of good cops and civilians suffered from my rage

What really angers me is that this game will not be playable on a PS4 since there is no backward compatibility. I did read there is going to be backward compatibility for Platinum PS3 games so perhaps GTA5 will fit that bill??

I'd be highly surprised if they don't release GTAV on PS4/Xbone at the same time the PC port comes out.

Different architecture, it's not going to happen realistically - they will be offering their own Gaikai streaming play eventually, offering PS3 games, but running PS3 game discs on a PS4 would require some real sorcery of the highest order.

As linked above, there will most likely be a PS4 edition, and I bet it'll be stuffed to the gills with extra stuff, and be a more straightforward install!

I don't understand why architecture is the reason for none backwards compatibility.

The original Xbox was Pentium 3 & the 360 is a Power PC but games from Xbox could be played on the 360 once a patch was installed for the specific game.
