I found on the gp2x archive GNU Midnight commander, which is supposed to be an open source file manager (Link) and downloaded it but all you get is a 1-2mb file with no extension and no readme. How do I use it? Or am i a dumbass and downoaded a source file?

MC is a shell application. The one file is a binary. it needs to go on your gp2x or sd card and be run from a sterm/telnet/ssh session.

Actually, it does not work very well with sterm. It was most probably only intended for remote sessions. And for that you might as well use a version of midnight commander for your pc.

Remote sessions is pretty much what I want it for, I tried using vnc in qtopia but it didn't work.
Well, I'd still recommend using midnight commander on your pc instead. Simply download a midnight commander for your pc. Activate usb networking and the telnet/ftp servers on your gp2x. Then start midnight commander on your pc, and type 'cd /#ftp:root:-||gp2x/'. That will open a ftpfs connection to your gp2x.
