I Guess We Won't Be Seeing Any More Quake On Pandora

Haven't certain high ranking officials in the US been trying to ban violent video games for years now?
They've been trying, but there is no way to succeed. The first amendment makes banning any kind of video game illegal.
Oh, wait until the video game companies need a bailout and gov owns them, then we will get 1950's style leave it to beaver video games. No need to censor, just buy them. Already we can buy a government made car, finance it with a loan from a gov owned bank, buy gov owned insurance policy... They were even going to buy a newspaper!!! State owned media, just what we need. Instead of creating or saving 600,000 jobs, we can change it to like 100 million a month (Nancy Pelosi can be the release person"].[/quote]i don't think the video game industries are doing so bad... if we don't want something like "Goverment Motors". at least GM didn't have to change their logo.

"for games in which an essential part of the plot of the virtual reality exercise described killing or other acts of cruel or otherwise inhuman acts of violence against human beings or human-like is, in effect.
I guess this means there are going to be a lot more animal cruelty games in germany.

Last time I checked this will probably just infuriate those few people with issues that take out their stresses on video games to the point where they end up going on the sort of spree the government is "trying to prevent". Honestly, banning fake violence only results in REAL violence.

Glad I live in the USA, where excessive violence without a cause was practically born.

Interesting anecdote, I think. I was visiting a friend at his parents house the other day, about video games and such. I forget the exact nature of the conversation, but it basically went to "and what did they do before video games?"
To which my friends father responded "we would go outside and put firecrackers in frogs mouths."
Boys will be boys, as the saying goes. You can either control it in a virtual environment, or let them out to blow up frogs.

No, they can't do that because, unlike in Germany (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volksverhetzung), the US actually does quarantee the right to freedom of speech. That's why if you are a Nazi sympathizer or white supremacists of some sort , your only option is to have your site hosted in the US.

What they were trying to do is ban selling violent games to minors which is a completely different thing.

what's the point of this? banning violent video games will only increase the level of germans playing violent video games. don't blame the video games, blame the people going postal.
i'm pissed too but thats horrible logic

uh no. if that was the case, the freely available "rape simulator" (hardly a simulator) games would be reducing rape, right? and their (mostly symbolic, but the industry took note) ban would rase rape in japan, right? but so far nothings changed, and thats just one instance. there aren't a whole lot of other examples since your idea of vicarious fullfulment through videogames is such a stupid and fundamentally flawed argument thats only used by people desperate to defend their silly hobby

i don't see how my logic is horrible. usually banning an activity or substance will lead to an increased rate instead of decreased. for example, the amendment banning alcoholic drinks in the US actually increased the number of people drinking and how much they drank.

oh please. the rise in alcohol consumption wasn't because of the ban, it was because of a number of other problems that had acted as a catalyst for the ban in the first place, and also some of the harmful effects that happened (however... alcohol isn't videogames. a mafia won't spring up around videogames because not enough people care)

so you're saying that what the government is doing is effective and the amount of violent video games people will play will be reduced and there will be less people going postal?

You are putting words in his mouth. Banning video games will not have any effect on people going postal in any way. The only statistic it will change is piracy.
