The next time you complain about me complaining about having trouble saving up for Pyra, remember that millions of people are getting a thousand dollar phone this Christmas. Let's both hate them together, and be united.

The phone looks good. Like a Samsung S8, LG G6. In Europe I think the price is closer to 1150 -1200€. Which is more than the minimum monthly wage in France.

The most I've ever spent on a phone was 250€ (HTC Trinity and Samsung Galaxy S1). These last years my purchases have been more around the 70-120€ mark. My last one is a LG G2 I bought for 70€. It's specced higher than the Pyra in terms of screen and SoC :D

I've never bought a smartphone new for myself, always used.
The only time I've bought one new was a Moto G to gift it to my aunt, I didn't want to take chances.

Spare a thought for any of my fellow Aussies that wnat to buy the iPhone X. Here in Australia it will be $A1579 for the 64GB model and $A1829 for the 256GB model. That's a lot of money

Get a better job, I save more than an iPhone X every month. Not that I have any interest in iPhones.

Great, worked fantastic for me too. Glad I could help.

Sarcasm aside, it is really all about what you care to spend money on, i.e. what is important to you. I lead a rather sober life, essentially still on student-level spending, only now with a mortgage. I do not have anyone that is financially dependent on me and I choose to forego most luxury, challenging myself to cut cost where I can. Managing spending is just as important as increasing your income.

My point is, the target audience has more disposable income and is not even close to spending 1/12th of their life to buy it.
If this phone is a massive cost to you, then do not get it. There are cars out there that cost the same as a house, you don't drive those either, do you? Does that imply that they should not exist? No, of course not.

Anyway, in my opinion, there are other phones out there which offer way more bang for your buck. And apologies for being a bit of an ass, no offense was intended.

I have enough reserves to buy the maxed out version of the new egg-phone whenever I would like.
(Sorry, egg-phone its a german language based pun.)

But I'm still using my Nokia 3510 because everywhere I'm going, there is a PC or tablet available.
The only annoying thing of my Nokia is that the battery is going bad slowly.
I have to charge it once a week.

I don't see the the advantage of a extreme expensive phone which has to be handled like a raw egg and works only one or two years.

Well the typical Iphone user is piss poor. So according to you they completely miss their target.

There's a reason they're poor, and that's because they're paying the sort of money in the title every year (usually via monthly subscription) in order to keep up to date with their smartphone.

Good point, you got me there.

There is a silver lining though, if anyone brings up that the Pyra is insanely overpiced, you can always point to the iPhone X as one that is even worse :)

"Oh, but the iPhone is worth it"
    "why?"
    "Because it's made by Apple"
And that's how you lose an argument to a moron.

Some people spend even more money on something uncomfortable that you strap on your wrist and that can only show you the time.

Compared to all those status symbols, Pyra is cheap.

My bicep tattoo of Tux the linux penguin (holding a 1UP mushroom) is my favorite status symbol and it was free because my brother was learning to tattoo and needed practice.

Even cheaper than free was my other favorite status symbol:

Not only is it free, but it saves me money on razors and shaving cream.

Thanks for the financial advice. Are you aware that most people on Earth would consider "student-level spending" extremely luxurious? I mean, obviously not any of the people in YOUR neighborhood, rich guy.

I'm pretty sure nobody said the iPhone X should not exist.

Nah, you didn't say anything offensive, only ignorant enough to poke fun at! You made me giggle, not scowl. :)

You know the great thing about a free market?
Apple can charge £1k for a telephone, and I can ignore them.

Some people see great value in a shiny iProduct, and will scrape together the money to buy one.
I think they're daft - but they're equally free to ignore me.

It's better to put money and effort into projects that meet one's own desires (e.g. the Pyra) than to moan about those that don't.
In fact, I'd go so far as to say that the price is a deliberate marketing ploy. Every news outlet, techy and general alike, is carrying the headline "Apple releases $1000 iphone". It's attention-grabbing and, what's more, it turns the product into even more of an ostentatious indicator of wealth than previous models.

There is still a feeling with many people that expensive things are better, so a high cost automatically labels the owner as wealthy - even if they aren't.
Personally, I think obvious displays of spending power are tasteless, and the iphone is over-rated - and many people would disagree.

Hating those people seems like a complete waste of effort, which could be spent doing something fun or useful, or both!

Maybe it's a waste of time, but it's because of them if the market changes, becoming stale... killing the companies that really do technological advancements...
