Is there a full HTML5 web browser for Open Pandora? (Runescape 3 related)

So now that Runescape will soon run on HTML5 when Runescape 3 is released, would it be possible for an HTML5 web browser on Open Pandora to play Runescape?

Sure if you want it to lag harder than the mental processing power of a retiree with Alzheimer's and multiple back surgeries.

hdonk has been doing a brilliant job of keeping Firefox up to current, or at least fairly close. If your Runescape runs in Firefox then it'll probably run on the Pandora. Whether it will run well is an entirely different question.

Would it be possible to play Runescape on the Pandora through a remote desktop application?

Even DS homebrew has a remote desktop application.

Pandora has remote desktop, but I've never even had a game streaming over RDP from desktop to desktop in any playable state... but then I guess that depends on what type of game you're trying to play. Freecell over RDP would probably work :)

LOL Freecell. TBH, even RDP (the fastest Remote Desktop protocol) is slow af unless you have minimum 1gb/s up. That being said, if you were just on your home wifi (similar to how the Nvidiya Shield will work) you could play it no problem. It's the Internet thats the bottleneck in this equation.

By remote desktop, I was talking about while you're in your own house on your WiFi or connected directly to the PC.

I just tried it, and surprisingly, Oldschool Runescape worked with no trouble, and runs at almost full speed on my CC Pandora. It's actually quite playable with nubs-as-mouse + dpad, except that the screen is a little too small so you need to use the scrollbar sometimes.

Install the Java pnd (I chose the open-source Java, which works fine with both versions of Runescape on my Linux desktop).

Download the Runescape Windows client and extract the jagexappletviewer.jar (either by installing the msi on Windows, or using 7zip).

Copy the jar to the Pandora and run it with

java -cp /path/to/jagexappletviewer.jar -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true -Dcom.jagex.config=http://oldschool.runescape.com/jav_config.ws jagexappletviewer .----

For current Runescape, the config url parameter (English) would be http://runescape.com/k=3/l=en/jav_config.ws

For me it freezes when trying to move from the lobby to the actual game. If it worked, it would probably be slow. Anyone else want to try to make it work?

Some other configuration options that might help to tweak:

http://services.runescape.com/m=rswiki/en/RuneScape_Client/prm_Files

Holding the "S" key from the "fetching updates" stage until the login screen forces safe mode for the graphics (useful if the auto setup is getting stuck).

Hmm, is anyone here with a 1ghz pandora willing to try what (s)he just did to see if it'll run regular Runescape (not talking about Oldschool?

I have a 1ghz. Ill give it a shot tonight if I remember.

I switched to Oracle Java, added the other flags recommended on the wiki page I linked earlier, and set up my Pandora with a 1G swap file. Regular Runescape still froze when trying to move from the lobby to the game itself.

Anyway, I expect if this was a memory allocation problem, there would be some sort of error message about it in the terminal.

Code:
java -cp /media/SD_4G_A/runescape/jagexappletviewer.jar -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true -Dcom.jagex.config=http://runescape.com/k=3/l=en/jav_config.ws -Xss2m -XX:CompileThreshold=1500 -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+UseParNewGC jagexappletviewer .

It might be worth taking a look in /tmp/ after such a freeze. Most pnds save a log of the last run there, under the naming scheme pndrun_name-of-app.something. I don't remember if the Java installation does too, but it can't hurt to check.

There doesn't seem to be one. There are two files pndmnt_java.out and pndumnt_java.out, which are like the beginning and end of the usual pndrun file, and nothing seems to be amiss there.

Java doesn't run the normal way PNDs do, it mounts the PND, runs the jar, and then unmounts the PND, hence the pndmnt and pndumnt files.

Anywho, your problem is with the classpath. I kind of mucked that up a bit when I added a bunch of special libraries to the package and added them to the default classpath. Instead of passing the classpath on the command line put it in the CLASSPATH variable.

Code:
export CLASSPATH=/media/SD_4G_A/runescape/jagexappletviewer.jar
java -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true -Dcom.jagex.config=http://runescape.com/k=3/l=en/jav_config.ws -Xss2m -XX:CompileThreshold=1500 -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+UseParNewGC jagexappletviewer .
I've been meaning to remove the additional libraries from the default classpath (they'd still be in the package, they'd just need to be manually added to the classpath) but I keep getting distracted by something shiny.

Using that script, I'm getting "Could not find the main class: jagexappletviewer." (The equivalent on my desktop computer works fine.)

herp derp, I'm an idiot. There's a bug in the openjdk I can see now.

Try using the official Sun Java. No need to rerun the installer, just "rm ~/.useopenjdk"

Cool, it's working! - though unplayably slow on my CC Pandora. Someone with a 1GHz try it?

I thought I switched to Oracle Java by re-running the installer, before my post on June 29th. But the ~/.useopenjdk was still there today.
