Anyone know what system on a chip this tiny thing uses? What OS? It has a 2-inch 220x172 color LCD, a miniSD memory slot, a USB 2.0 interface and "plays K-Pex compatible games." From the manual, I see that Star Force is one of the included games. The internal rechargeable battery lasts about 17 hours:

The version with 2GB of built-in memory is US$115 (1GB version is US$98):

A review of it is here:

Nope, I think nobody gives a shit, cause all it has to do is play some music, video's and photo's. The thing isn't build to do more than that.

Wish I could read the language. Wonder what the difference is between this and the 100?

All ARM-based "Systems on a Chip" that I'm aware of are designed to play music, videos and photos. They are also designed to allow game play. This includes the chip in the GP2X (obviously) and those found in any number of cellular phones.

This is not only an MP3, JPG and video player, it also plays games. The fact that it takes 14 seconds to boot up makes me wonder if it's using embedded Linux.

OK, this is what I know.

It's just a Cenix GMP M6 rebadged.

It's also called the Daewoo DEF-1000 and the ORIENT F85.

Thank you for the leads!! They enabled me to find this 2005 article:

Cenix GMP-M6 Gaming System: Compact PSP Killer?
http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/345/C5407/

From the article, a very interesting comment: "while the roster of titles available at launch time is not known, there is a reported 50,000 2D / 3D games available for download. " WHAT games are they talking about? Could this be a slew of cellular phone-based games?

And last, but not least, the Cenix web site about this gaming unit:

Since Kingston is now selling this as the K-Pex 100, we don't have to special order from Korea to get our hands on a Cenix GMP-M6.

..."It looks a little on the teeny side, and without lots of dedicated game software support, it's probably not going to blow the market away, but heck, it's another novelty geek item to file next to the apparently ultra-buggy GP2X, right?"

They know we read stuff like that

I'd get the Kpex 200

It just occurred to me that what they are calling a K-Pex 200 is probably just what Kingston is calling the K-Pex 100 with 2 GB rather than 1GB. That is, Kingston just keeps the same name (K-Pex 100) for the 2GB version rather than changing the name to K-Pex 200.

Possibly, but if you look on the pictures, on the back of the console it says K-Pex 200

Well, for marketing reasons manufacturers sometimes use different model numbers for the same product in different regions. For instance, the Canon 400D dSLR camera is called the Rebel XTi in the US and the 400D everywhere else. However, since the Cenix GMP M6 upon which the K-Pex 100 is based seems to have been introduced in 2005 and since the K-Pex 200 link above is dated 8/2006, it could be time for an upgrade which might be the 200. Unfortunately, I can find nothing more on the 200.

I wish I could find what SoC this thing has in at and what those 50,000 2D / 3D Internet downloadable games they are claiming are all about. I'll bet they are cell phone games as previously suggested.
