Thought i better put my penny worth in ,i call my non microsoft windows OS ,GNU-Linux Ubuntu as it is a part of the GNU,in everyday life i call it, Linux as most of my friends and family don't even know what linux is ,yes they don't shock horror ,so i keep it basic for them ,if they ever take anymore interest i would tell them more ,needless to say i would also use the distro name in general ,Ubuntu or what ever distro i be using at that time.

With my family and friends who hold no interest in geeky stuff, they all know it as the computer or laptop.

Some of them have Linux and others have Win7 based on their requirements.

The Linux ones can do all the stuff they want to do, which is email, skype and do online shopping and it works as fast as when they first brought their PC.

More importantly it only cost them a meal and a few cups of tea!

I try to educate them, but as soon as their eyes glaze I focus on trying to teach them good browsing habits instead :p
