i've that application in my rokr e6...its called MUSIC ID. its in .jar format... i can upload it if you want..

@ sousaptak

I'm a bit slow, so bear with me here (ignore my stupid post earlier).

Starting in the mid 70's, and through the 80's, and into the early 90's. There was the home micro revolution, before the PC domination ended it all (I shall ignore the Macs). The OpenPandora captures that feel, and through emulation duplicates these early machines, and the consoles. This early era that began with the 8-bits, was missed by most countries, as it was a hobby market, and expensive. Not forgetting the Americans, did not allow these programmable calculators going into certain markets.

In a lot of the Asian countries, these early moments were missed, and they jumped mostly straight into the end of the 8-bit era, where the last consoles arrived from Nintendo & Sega (I shall ignore clones of, and other systems), just before the global domination of their 16-bit consoles. The home computer had given way to big Blues (IBM) PC (the ST & Amiga, were mainly an EU success).

The OpenPandora is like a revamp of the old home computer, so form factor suits the nerdy geeks we are.

When you talk about new concept ideas. I think that one idea would be to treat the OpenPandora hardware, as a product to be licenced out by OPT, to other manufacturers (Chinese - sorry Craig), for royalties. This way OPT hold all ownership. The Chinese have a working hardware model, as maintained by OPT, that they can then mess around with (cheaper inferior parts), under licence into whichever form factors suit the destination markets.

This would mean a flood of cheesy rip off generic software, that we could all commercially enjoy.

So the nerdy purists can have the OpenPandora as is, and all the trendy markets can have whichever flavour form factor is in.

My only real input to this discussion would be to have controls, be that nubs, ABXY, Scroller (I like the old trackball), Dpad, on a module that plugs in on a connection (universal for all control "slots"), so that you could swap them around and have them where you want or have more even of a control you like, great if your left handed and want to swap you controls to suit.

@ sousaptak:
Hello and welcome to the forums!
Your ideas are interesting! The discussion that resulted from it, is also interesting! (with the exception of "typs lik dis" being childish)
Keep in mind that discussions like this, are what resulted in the Pandora's creation to begin with!

I have a few ideas of my own to add, if I may:

1. One USB 1.0 slot, as I don't have a USB Hub, nor want to carry one with me.
2. Far more NAND space, if possible.
3. Retractable headphones! Yes! Headphones built into the unit that can be pulled out and set at length, then retracted back into case when not in use, kind of like measuring tape! Ear Buds would work best, of course.
4. crappy video camera. Because hey why not!
5. a stylus that is also a screwdriver! and nail file! hey the swiss can do it.
6. an attachable mini printer! with mini paper! for taking notes in class and printing them out later.
7. Pandora themed merchandise! T-Shirts, hats, towels, mice, keyboards, mousepads, sunglasses, condoms, cereal, everything!! Yeah!!
8. An official Pandora animal mascot! I'm thinking a bulldog, because bulldogs are awesome. Especially one munching on a PSP!
9. a mini-CDRW drive, that can burn on those half-sized mini-CDR's they sell at walmart. No real reason, just because.
10. And Finally, the ability to order a specially airbrushed case! I still want "Don't Panic!" in bold red on my Pandora lid!

Okay, so some of those are rather silly. I blame Mjlink's favorite plant.
What do you guys think?

The Pandora already has one: the OTG port. It just needs a (cheap) adapter to go from the USB mini to full sized.

There's pretty much no way this can't happen. Seriously, it's almost impossible to buy SD cards under 1 gig these days because they just keep getting bigger. So too with the NAND and RAM.

If this gets a serious suggestion I will argue against it. My ears are different from your ears, and as such I probably like a slightly different style of earbud than you do, or at least someone does.
Everyone's ears are different, no two ears are not actually the spy.

Because why go crappy when you can go awesome? :p
If you've got the room to jam a crappy $20 camera in there, why not spend $30 and get a good one?

I'll take 2!

They exist. That's why we have a USB port. :D

Bulldog? Eeeew.
A cute, cuddly Panda. :p

OPT are going to sell spare parts, including cases. Not too much of a step to get them airbrushed. Even just buy a case and take it to a local shop.

My ears prefer Sennheiser PX200s, which you can't really build into something (earbuds simply don't fit me at all - earbuds are too big).

My ears are definitely not a spy. Whatever that means. :p

Oh! Kick ass!

True! Though I was thinking more along the lines of using SSD instead of NAND for mega space.

Very true, however, that didn't stop most people from using the iPhone's white ones almost exclusively. If the ear buds are good enough, able to be hidden in the case, and there is still a jack so you can use your own, this could still be a viable suggestion.

Well first, suggesting awesome ones is not as funny.
And second, I have yet to see a vid camera in a mini device that I didn't consider crappy.

2!? Now don't get crazy! what do you need two for? Are you ambidextrous? Gonna screw in two things at once? Maybe file the nail of the thumb on the hand screwing in a screw with the other one?

Ah, you misunderstand what I mean by "attachable". I was thinking more like, fits on the case as part of the unit. The louder and more obscene the better though, just so everyone in the class knows you are printing something. That way they can assume I'm printing my notes, but when they look, lesbian porn is popping out!

Only 8!? fuckin cheapskate!

Sure but a Panda is too obvious, that's what people would expect! Never do the expected!
Now a Bulldog, would make people go WTF. I dunno about you, but I love making people go WTF!

I was thinking internal. Slot loading too, not those pop out trays that work better.

True, I've been trying to find an old thread I remember where somebody posted a photoshopped pic of a Pandora with the Don't Panic! HHGTTG logo on the lid. Too bad I got impatient and gave up, it would be a really awesome mod.

Good reply!

Also, I have now realized that replying line-by-line like that, is an enormous pain in the ass!
From now on I'm going to expect people to constantly scroll up and try to figure out wtf I am replying to.

This was the only one I could find in that vein. I don't remember another one, though. :p

based on this

That's probably it (thanks!!), but I could have sworn someone did one with Don't Panic! in red on the top of the lid where the cube logo pops out a little. Ah well maybe I just pictured it in my head.

To be fair, Steve Jobs could probably take what he found in the toilet this morning and suggest people stick it in their ears, and it would at least be considered :p

Why not go something like platypus then? No way could anyone ever possibly expect a platypus!

And there's a quote limit :(

First, I was TOTALLY EXPECTING A PLATYPUS! So, you lose.

Second, while the Steve Jobs comment is probably accurate, built-in earbuds would at least be a nice backup in case you forget to bring your giant over the ear monstrosities. I forget mine all the time. Also, sometimes they break, or go bad. Of course, with a little use, the earbuds could break or go bad as well. Thus, the ability to detach and replace them would also be necessary.

Third, your quote tags were broken. Which means, since I quoted you, mine were broken too. So I fixed mine, but NOT YOURS. Hopefully, everyone will now assume I can quote properly and you can't!

Oh wait, I think I just gave it away.

Also I apologize for the silly humor, but it's your fault because now you have me watching strong bad again.

Maybe, as an alternative OS. But I prefer Ångström, Gentoo or Debian.

So it won't have it as the default OS? Why not? We would have commercial games and stuff.
