Some people seem disatisfied with the current level of posting. Once the new Gamepark BLU came out, we had to expect new users would start popping up with BLUs and old GP32s sold on ebay. Eventually the community should calm down as newbies get a clue and become regular members or get disinterested with GP32x.

Now I know you all hate stupid questions, but just because they're idiots doesn't mean they're not entitled to help with the GP32.

I propose a "Newbie Initiation" phase that is clearly defined. Let's say 1 week. After the 1 week is up, anyone with an IQ over 60 should be able to figure out how to properly use these boards and where to go for help BEFORE posting. So this means after the week is up, the "newbie protection" is gone from them, so you can flame them as you would any regular member. Of course there is only such a level of flames we can tolerate, but so far you can see we are pretty lax when it comes to regular members ;)

I also propose sectioning off the "New Posts" feature like this, in this order:

-General: General Talk, News Zone, Reviews, Beta Testing, Marketplace
-Dev: Everything under "gp32dev"
-Off-Topic: Everything under "Other stuff"
-Help: I need help... board
-Wishes: Cool ideas and other wishes

You could also choose to only view posts in these particular boards. Out of sight, out of mind.

What do you think?

Or make a big graphic label like "GP32 Guru" or "GP32 XTREME TEAM MEMBER" saying

"WARNING I DON'T READ FAQS"

When someone ask a question, whose answer is easly found on FAQS, mods give this label to user, after one week it expires.

;)

Also I feel that anything in the "other stuff" section shouldn't be viewable on the front page, but mabe thats just me. Otherwise I have no prob with this, though if someone really wants to ask a question and the week hasn't passed, their pretty much SOL.
BTW generalnmx, when you say "New Posts" what exactly do you mean? the "view new posts" link?

Sounds great, but when we are on the subject,

can I have a big red "RTFM" button?

Sounds good... one other idea I had for a while but didnt think it would work was to have a "helpdesk", ie a group of people to answer newbie questions specifically..

Well I used to post here from time to time.. but sort of eased off coming here. I got a bit bored with GP32 - but some cool stuff it coming out which has wetted my appetite again. Was round Axemans house the other day and he showed me some stuff.

Now I understand most of you are teenagers, which explains all the high and mighty flaming that went on from time to time.. but it really took the piss.

I only tuned in tonight as the amiga channels I frequent are a bit quiet at 12.30pm.. everyone is dropping as they have work in the morning - so thought I would see what is happening in GP32dom.

Glad to see you are being more friendly and ameaniable this time.

good idea indeed, but newbies post in wrong forums or ask questions already answered in stickies just because they are newbies.

other sections or walkthroughs, or whatever, won't solve that prob.
i don't bother. and i really don't know, why, if a newbie asks, where to put the roms or what to do when...and so on, are answered in that kind they were at the moment. actually answeres to that kind of questions are mostly off-topic, because it's just flaming, teaching how to do this'n'that right or wrong, and so on
if the question is anwered, there's nothing more to say about that, but there are threads talking mostly about nothing.

it's like i said, a good idea, but there will be always newbie, or people who register for just a single question, and i don't mind (yeah he he...hmm ramones) and i don't care (..hm, also ramones...)

it's worth a try, really, but i say, just answer and don't care.

Very true, which is why I think the newbies should have a 1-week protection from flames. Seriously, if you're an active user of this forum for one week posing questions, and you can't figure out how to help yourself, there's no helping you anyway. If it takes you longer then a week to figure out how to use the search function, google, and FAQs, then it would require a level of nazi-ism even farther then before to keep the newbies safe. And we can all agree that's worse for the community then to cuddle what I like to call "eternal newbies".

Hello im new here and im wondering why after i play for about 7 hours or so my screen starts flashing then it resets? just kidding!

i think the "1week then flame to death" rule is a good idea. but you'd have to asure that everyone sees/knows/understands it.

I dont understand "newbie syndrome" when I got my GP32 I spent loads of time playing around with it, trying to figure out how it works and stuff...if your not lazy and want a quick fix you can easily feel your way round the basics...

that said, since this is probably one of the best known gp32 site this would be the first place I would have come to ask my "stupid" questions

was that a rant?...anywho, I like the badge idea "I don't read Stickies"

I want a badge!!! "If you read this you are gay" hahaha, I could never get bored of that...though come to think of it, even when I was 7 I'm not sure I even used that gag...oh well :D

It seems you people are getting so full of yourself. When I arrived overhere I asked some stupid questions but there were always nice people who took the time to give me an answer... This is a great community formed by a minority. Let´s face it the gp32 isn´t that popular. I have never met anyone who said HEY IS THAT A GAMEPARK... No it is always... what are you playing on your gameboy....

So keep attracting those so called newbies... They help to form a larger gp32 user base.

a little harsh. wouldn't you say?
But true. If people don't like a newbie question just skip it, flame-wars are doing more damage to this place than 'stupid newbie questions'. Most flame-wars are started by the same three people who just like to be negative about everything, eagerly followed by a group of people who want to prove they are not a newbie anymore.

A 'I don't read stickies badge' isn't that bad if it's in good fun. Allowing people to flame isn't very smart; I can see a number of people just waiting and counting the days 'till they can flame a newbie and say something smart resulting in a huge number of flames by people trying to outdo eachother.

The number of flames is already rising, I really don't think we need to do anything to encourage that. IMO the flames are far more annoying than the newbies. At least they have an excuse for acting the way they do.
