Overclocking

I saw in places that the CPU really runs at 66MhZ but it can be overclocked WAY higher in software, is this overclocking dangerous beyond the chance that the GP32 will crash and I will have to re-start it (Like could overclocking fry the CPU or melt a connection, or blow up with the power of an atom bomb?)

i believe 40MHz is the default - might be wrong though.

the clocking ability is there to allow extra power when needed, but to save battery power when not - which is very clever. in theory, start leaving things running much over the generally accepted 133MHz threshold and you harm the lcd, but other than that no worries.

yer no problems up to 133 so we hear. in theory its a 133mhz cpu underclocked when using some apps rather than overclocked.

Yeah, do not run any of the 166Mhz apps! (Or set PCEngine to 166Mhz). There have been a bunch of reports of damaged LCD screens if the GP32 is run at this speed.

How do I know if it is a 166MhZ app? Will it say a warning, or do I just have to hope that it isn't, or what? Is the Full Speed SNES emu that dosen't have sound a 166MhZ?

I guess at 166Mhz the processor gets hot and melts the screen - how else would the screen melt at a higher processor rate?

But how do I know if an app is 166MhZ+? I don't want to wait until my LCD is fried to find out

I only know of GPEngine - and there's a warning in there!
All other emus / games run at maximal 133 Mhz.

ScummVM has a 166mhz version, and the GP mediaplayer which works for like 1 in 10 people is iffy.

ScummVM 133mhz works acceptible on my GP32, and Moviepark is better than GP mediaplayer, so no need to overclock.

Are you sure scummVM runs with 166 MHz?
I thought it was a 133 MHz version and a 132 MHz version for those who have problems with the 133 MHz version...?
