Pyra Overlay

Pandora has no kernel side of DRM, so libdrm non-functional.

Ah, okay. Thanks.

What would be nice is if the overlay could accept widgets that can be written by devs or users.  Then, people could extend the overlay with their own functionality without overlay dev needing to be involved.  This would also allow users to customize what they see in their overlay by including the widgets they wish to see.

Whilst I agree a plugin/widget system sounds nice, but it'll probably be a massive ballache to implement. Let's see how I get on with a simple overlay first and go from there...

It isn't really a hassle if you plan for it from the start. Extending it with plugin support later however is a sure way to end up with lots of messy code duplication.

is there an official git repository for all things pyra development?  if not, it would be great to have a central repository which pulls in all the stuff like the linux kernel, this overlay program, etc.

any particular scripting language we'd want to use for the overlay widgets?

Central repository yes...

trashy@trashypyra:~$ cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/multistrap-pyra.list
deb [arch=armhf] http://packages.pyra-handheld.com/debian jessie-pyra main
deb-src http://packages.pyra-handheld.com/debian jessie-pyra mainAnd git yes:

I don't know whether ED would consider my overlay "official", but even if he does, it'll probably remain in my github account, but I'm a long way from that (not really making any progress). My first play into using libdrm on my Mint netbook has been highly unsuccessful, and I've just read this that says not to use drmOpen?!

As for widgets, I wasn't thinking of a scripting language, more like the Pandora button - where you compile C shared libs, but I'm not going to get ahead of myself in the design until I can at least create a proof of concept overlay on my netbook and/or NUC.

Of course, I might not be the only person looking into this, so it'll be interesting to hear if anyone else is, and what their progress is

Edit: On a related note, if I bought an OMAP dev board and got it working on the HDMI out, would that mean it'd work on the Pyra's LCD as well, or would that need further configuration?
