For those who don't want to read: Sony is making an Android based game system / phone. My guess is that games are going to be pushed more heavily on Android once it has that kind of backing, and the controls are basically the same as the new device. Definitely worth considering.

Sure... But not as primary OS. I'm waiting for your android image :D

The Pandora wouldn't be able to run Android 3.0 anyways; it needs an 1GHz (for ARM at least) processor and 512 MiB of RAM.

But the APIs are incredibly nice; a developers dream (as I've ranted about many times before) so it's really a pity.
 
My question: Is this a serious attempt at making a PSP+Phone hybrid? Or is it the latest idea of the Sony Ericsson team to boost phone sales?

You know, they could just slap on PSP like controls on any device and call it a PSP+phone hybrid. When in reality controls could be poorly designed, the device architecture not suitable for making games, etc, etc. It could all be a marketting scheme with no real substance to it.
 
It's a move to ARM...either they are going to port PSP games or develop their own ultra-advanced emulator. If it's the former, I don't see it catching on much. If it's the latter, HELLZ YES.


I do hope we get a hardware supported Android port here, but it wouldn't make sense to make it the default OS. Just an Android OS with hacked on Market functionality.
 
A proper gaming device and phone properly integrated,ie not the nokia engage.Maybe it could catch on as people take their phones everywhere with them and dont take their handheld gaming consoles everywhere.
 
No nub(s) in the render tells me this isn't meant to compete with the psp. If android has decent software someone will eventually port it though.

Schmidt has previously said, "If you have something that you don't want anyone to know, maybe you shouldn't be doing it in the first place."

Honestly, I can't take this rumor seriously. In Japan Sony has got a couple of phones able to use remote play to run PS1 games (as I understand their functionality). With the poor battery life of the PSP Go I can't see adding a phone to the mix making for an appealing system, especially since it's likely limited to remote play and PS1 emulation from the PSP.

I mean, it's like a horrid persistent joke that Sony is playing on consumers. I don't think those in charge really know how to connect to their consumers anymore, or at least don't want to (seeing how aggressively they act toward the homebrew scene lately).

I don't think Sony ever attempted to connect to the consumers. They just have an idea....create a fancy looking product with promising specs....sell it...and then people see that they are so limited by Sony in the real functionality. I wonder if they even ever do a lot of research about what people really want out of a product.

Look at what the OP team has done a few years ago. Just tell us what you want. If enough people want it, it'll make it into the product if it can be produced at a fair price. I don't think there is another company out there so very connected to the end-users.

For the same reason as i voted no last time, I'd say "so what" this time. It's not like we would be given access to the program library anyway. The Pandora is made to be open. You can move anything you want, of and on the system entirely at will. Copy protection where? To get licensed for the good stuff you guys are hoping to get access to, you have to have a secured platform, that makes it close to impossible to copy stuff like that, so that they can charge to sell the junk. And the Panda is just opposite, so thats not going to happen.

I thought it was hilarious and startling when Sony publicly declared the PSP Go an experiment.
