Another cute, addictive platformer arrives by the name of Rodland, and it's
all about two unfortunate fairies called Tam and Rit.

On Speccy, Mame, C64, Amstrad, Atari ST, NES & Gameboy

These cheery little fairies with long hair, pointy ears & incredibly silly names,
must set about rescuing Mrs Fairy (mom) who has been kidnapped and taken
to Maboots Tower.

Mame

Locked within this grim piece of stonework are creepy crawlies, the likes,
you have never seen spawned from hell before, such monstrous demons
that will put fear into every living..... oh, all right. Your mams been
kidnapped by the cutest beasties you will ever have seen since... erm...
the last cutest beasties you ever saw.

C64

And it is your job (Rod in hand) to go get her back from them.

NES

Clambering around the platforms (35+) is done by making use of ladders
& balloons or using your rod of magic to make them (ladders that is).
You also use your rod to stun or swing an enemy (sharks, rabbits, lobsters,
corn cobs, squirrels, pillow cases? etc) from side to side, by doing so
3 times the enemy will die leaving you a power-up such as bouncing balls,
missiles, bombs, smart bombs etc.

image5381.jpg
Amstrad

bonuses are on hand by picking up the vegetation that is growing abundantly
around the place while an extra life is gained by collecting the letters E,X,T,R,A
that are left behind when certain enemy die.

image5421.jpg
Gameboy

to get at these special letters, you must collect all the flowers on a level
before killing all the enemy, when the flowers are all collected, the enemy
turns into what looks like beatroot that when killed, offers up those special
letters.

Atari ST

Although monochrome on the Speccy, the sprites are nicely drawn with great
animation setting them off a treat.

The end of level bosses are also pretty cute (I like the elephant on a trapeze).
like most cute platformers, the sound (music and spot effects) goes well.
Up there with New Zealand Story, Bubble Bobble & Rainbow Islands, the
game will bring a smile to your face with long lasting appeal. You won't go
far wrong with Rodland.

It's really good fun played two-player as well. I played it _a lot_ with my pal on the Amiga.

I would really like to see the MAME version though...

...just wish I had the rom ;-)
