Hey all,

Well it seems some talented folk have got SORR working on Wiz:
http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?/topic/59154-streets-of-rage-remake-v5-finally/page__p__946954&#entry946954

However, it seems be not an entirely foolproof as there are a few of us using GINGE which cant get it working, neither on Pandora or Cannoo (although people have got it working on the latter, it just appears inconsistent).

Clearly there's a discrepancy in how a successful .gpe is put together and how a failing one is, but we cant work it out.

Can anyone much smarter than me help? It may be asking a bit much for a pnd wrapper so all a person would need do is put in the SORR files and get playing (although this would be ideal) but maybe through using the Linux port of bennu another GINGE compatible version could be viable and we could all enjoy some SORR goodness on our Pandoras…

I don't want upload the pandora port because SEGA stuff's.

It's easy to do, simply use the last port from Bennu runtime to Pandora and configure the game in PC before, select language, and resolution to '2x original'.

*blows dust off thread*

Was my thread originally anyway Grin

I've just built the latest source on Pandora.
You can find the runtime here: http://stuckiegamez.co.uk/apps/pandora/bennu/bgd-runtime.20110420.tar.gz

Build Instructions:
The build script I used is: http://stuckiegamez.co.uk/apps/pandora/bennu/build-pandora.sh and uses sebt3's funky toolchain setup ( though slightly fiddled with a bit so that pndconfigure is a bit more global and accessible.. if you don't want to do that, just go into each folder and run pndconfigure first, then run the script to make and copy things about. )
Only out of place thing you have to do is build libdes and put it in your library path, and copy the mod* files into a data folder it seems... as my test game wouldn't find anything without doing that.

Run Instructions:
Extract the runtime somewhere ( folder/bgd-runtime, for example )
Extract a game somewhere ( folder/mygame, for example )
Then, just use a basic shell script like the above one, or quickly use:
Code:

Code:
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=../bgd-runtime:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH ../bgd-runtime/bgdi ./MyGame.dcb

From your game's folder ( folder/mygame, in this instance ) and it should work.

I did a quick test with one game I was asked to test for the Caanoo and it seemed to work fine ( albeit in a window, and without proper button mapping - pretty sure it was using the default keyboard map as the controls ended up using the dpad, and Z/X on the keyboard as action buttons. )

Again, as with everything I do, this is a "quick dodgy hack" till some people test it.
Sadly, I don't actually use Bennu myself, and work's a bit mental at the moment as we're about to release something, so I can't fully test it myself.

If there's any issues, or a new version gets released or something, feel free to give me a prod.. I jump about projects quite a bit and generally do more than I should, so prodding me somehow is usually a good way to get my attention to stop things stagnating

I haven't tested this yet, but this is probably it.

The thread at http://forum.bennugd.org/index.php?topic=1436.msg24119 describes how to use it.

Gong to try it later . . .

EDIT: Highlighted Run Instructions

IT WORKS!!

The Run Instructions are the same as above with this small change needed for Streets Of Rage

Create a run.sh script in the SORRv5 folder with this content:

Code:
#!/bin/sh
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=../bgd-runtime:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH ../bgd-runtime/bgdi ./SorR.dat

Excuse my ignorance, but I've never used a run.sh script before and the link doesnt really do much to make it clear for total beginners (like me)! Do you still need a .gpe file and running through GINGE? Could you run us through your process for idiots such as myself?

This method runs Streets of Rage Remake from a folder on your SD card.
It runs native on Pandora and does not require Ginge.

To do this you need the Bennu runtime folder to be in the same folder as the SORRv5 folder.

The directory structure will end up like this:

/your_folder/bgd-runtime/
/your_folder/SORRv5/

and the run.sh will go here:

/your_folder/SORRv5/run.sh

1. Download the Bennu runtime (bgd-runtime.20110420.tar.gz) here:
http://stuckiegamez.co.uk/apps/pandora/bennu/bgd-runtime.20110420.tar.gz

2. Find SORRv5 somewhere (maybe something like SORRv5.part1.rar or SORRv5.part2.rar but I can't help you there)

3. Create (or choose) a folder on your SD to put everything in (I used a folder named "your_folder" in this example)

4. Extract the bgd-runtime folder from bgd-runtime.20110420.tar.gz into the /your_folder directory

5. Extract the SORRv5 folder into the /your_folder directory

The directory structure will end up like this:

/your_folder/bgd-runtime/
/your_folder/SORRv5/

6. Create a new text file in /your_folder/SORRv5/ with the following content:
Code:
#!/bin/sh
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=../bgd-runtime:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH ../bgd-runtime/bgdi ./SorR.dat

Save this file as run.sh in /your_folder/SORRv5/

7. Now you can click on run.sh in /your_folder/SORRv5/ to launch Streets of Rage Remake

And there it is. You, sir, are a star. Thank you so much - after hours of messing around with mod files, deleting and unpacking SORR a billion times (my recycle bin was a SORR graveyard for the past 3 days), messing around with Bennu, trying all sorts of combos, failing gpe files... I've finally got it running. Thanks so much for the super clear, super effective instructions!

Now, as for putting the whole mess into a PND?

Ha, beyond my meagre skills, but someone will be able to create a PND wrapper without the SEGA-offending files, I'm sure.

What's so impressive about this is that it runs off the PC code, no need to make it think it's running off a handheld format - so two player AI, soundtrack, totally customised controls, screen size etc are all present. Speed suffers a tad, but it's more than playable without overclocking (although overclocking to around 700 seems to have the desired speed bump).

we need someone to pnd this up so it looks inside the app data folder for the data files :)

Yup, def the next step. It runs like a dream, so everyone should be able to get the most accessible version possible.

hi

can't seem to get the game to actually start when it says press start after choosing one player game it doesn't start?
cheers

milkshake said:
That's because until u change the buttons in the options menus "enter" on the keyboard is start.

yes but still does not go past player choice screen; maybe i have the wrong game data? should the game data folder about 400M in size?

when it gets to the player select screen it then uses the buttons specified in the options menu which i think by default is some buttons on the keyboard, when u get to the main menu, instead of starting a game, go to the options and redefine the player one keys to the pandora game buttons, then then you get to the player select screen u can press the relevant button.

yes the game data is the right size.
