Ah, yes. I went to one once.
It was like watching a shitty version of woodstock collide with freecycle (or craigslist or whatever you use) and etsy

It is even move sickening when you realize that these same companies raped these countries by stealing their natural resources forcing these people into disease ridden cities where they then used them as cheap labor to make their trillions.
These same companies? Really?

Yes, it's stupid and hypocritical for an industry group that makes its living by defending intellectual property rights to balk at FOSS (especially when it's used as a remedy for piracy), but let's not get carried away here.

Right communists actually exist, they're called nazbols or national bolscheviks and they're really big in russia. They have close ties to regular nazi movements over there too.

And PV can't you just fucking grow up? It's tiresome to read pointless and rather bad trolling.

Karl Marx would be turning in his grave when thinking about "Right" communists.

It doesn't matter, though, because they're both incredibly stupid as is any extremist philosophy or system.

I never said I was an extremist. Libertarian/Authoritarian, as I understand it, is a broad spectrum, with total Anarchy and absolute Totalitarianism at the extremes. Left/Right, as I understand it, is a scale of economic philosophy, with communism and socialism on the left and capitalism and corporatism on the right. It would appear that much of our disagreement is due to an argument of definition. It is also my understanding that the whole of mainstream American Politics resides in the Authoritarian Right quadrant of the political compass with "Democrats" being closer to Center and "Republicans" closer to the corner.

As for the rest, I don't think you quite understand the logistics of switching- the fact that you compared it to you getting your family to use it shows that. I was hardly referring to simply the end user.

Considering that I am unlikely to ever be in a position to influence a single school, much less the entire United States, I will admit that there may some logistical problems I have not considered or might be outright ignorant of. Realistically, such a transition would probably be done in phases with the change of OS being one of the later phases.

Open source software has NOTHING to do with communism and is a perfect example of free market capitalism. The person who owns the IP (the software) decides, without government coercion, how it is distributed and at what price. He retains full ownership of his property, but CHOSES by his own free will to release it without payment. To say that it is communist in nature is absurd in the highest degree, it is the very definition of a free market. It also puts pressure on the people that CHOSE to sell their software to provide better software or better service to compel other people to part with their hard earned dollars for software/bundled service. Open source, in the end, is good for everyone involved in software, either users or providers. That article is totally bogus.

Where does it end exactly?
It probably doesn't.
People are evil and greedy. Always. Especially, for some reason, corporate executives. The position attracts greedy people, I suppose, because it's easy to abuse.

I disagree with these statements. Westerners tend to romanticize the living condition these people were living in before the city life was opened up to them. Most of them worked all day every day for a meager existence. The jobs that are created by the companies doing business in these areas are creating wealth for the people there. Granted, it is not always an ideal situation, but most of the time it's because their gov is corrupt, not because of the market. But if their new conditions are so bad, why are they fleeing their villages by the hundreds of thousands and in some cases millions to live in the city and work at the factories? They are doing it because they are tired of living in poverty in the villages. They are tired of walking to the river to get water, tired of working all day every day and having no clean water, electricity, kitchens, toilets...Think about it.

I will not deny that open source is a communistic business model, and a damn good one at that. As for piracy, various open source products have allowed me to forsake proprietary products that I had to pirate due to lack of income.

Also, if I was in a position to make it happen, every computer in every public school and government office across America would be upgraded to Linux.

A proud FOSS user and a proud member of the Libertarian Left.
You should deny it because it has NOTHING to do with communism. As I stated earlier in this reply thread, FOSS is based on free market capitalism, not communism. In communism, means of production are controlled by the state, with FOSS, it is controlled by the person/entity that created the software.

1. "Upgraded"? If by "Upgraded" you mean "no one would know how to use them and nothing would ever get done"
i guess you could retrain everyone anyway, i mean hey whats a couple trillion more dollars to add to what would be the largest restructuring in the history of US public education (barring maybe segregation)

2. Libertarian Left is a oxymoron, just like "Intelligent Libertarian"
have fun voting ron paul, though, i guess.
What is your problem?
While I agree the support staff would need retraining (as what happens with most upgrades like from mac 9 to 10 for example), the user interface is generally not that different. A person who can use os X can use Linux and the same can be said for Windows/Linux (but Mac is more prevalent in the education system)
There are left leaning libertarians, but most are more on the right. If you think that loving freedom makes you stupid, then I don't know what to tell you. But I don't need my government to tell me what I can and can not do if I am not hurting anyone or infringing on anyone's rights.

Piss off.

Everything that comes out of your mouth is an insult, how else would you expect people to respond to you?
