What have you bought recently?

Yet more stuff for Peony. A mini sized photo album for her to store her photos in.

I had these, too. I wonder, if it's always the same mystery flavour or if there are multiple.
I'm pretty sure mine was
Ketchup
Just tried ours last night, and we're not sure the flavour. It's definitely something chilli and perhaps lime. Definitely not ketchup though, and unfortunately not mushroom.

- Two Arduino UNOs for the CNC shields I have lying around; TMC2209 drivers. The jury is still out on the steppers and PSU. Likely 17HE19-2004S and a passively cooled 24V Meanwell. I want to build a plotter...

- A DIN A3 cutting mat as replacement for my ghetto mouse pad, which for no obvious reason started curling up like crazy. (Edit: Maybe due to static electricity?) The cutting mat - by Elan Arts and Crafts - is black, has a nice texture to it and doesn't slip around. And I can use the other side to actually cut stuff on.

- A spool of PLA with 15% carbon fibres. I've been wasting hours trying to calibrate my printer using an old spool of PLA. Weirdly enough after installing klipper the first print came out nicely. But since - even after drying the filament multiple times - I just could not get decent results. As it turns out PLA can be permanently damaged by a process called hydrolysis. Maybe the outer strands just weren't affected as much as the rest. The new PLA-CF is printing like a dream at the moment. Just removed my first usable parts. They printed faster than with the other PLA and apart from some elephant's foot due to z-offset/temps they came out fine. One downside of this black material is that I can hardly make it out on the print bed over the Pi camera's stream. So for recognizing print failures early I have to stick to the machine for now until I get more lights with good CRI on it. The printer does come with an LED bar on top of the frame, but that mostly helps to form the perfect drop shadow under the print head. Tomorrow a spool of PETG-GF should find me. Looking forward to printing the Taurus fan upgrade using that.

- A set of "hardened tungsten" nozzles. They were very cheap. I don't think I've shaken hands with Herrn Wolfram while installing one of those.

Edit 2025-05-11: When small objects stick well, but large ones fail to adhere, increase temperature. Also do not trust what the manufacturer writes on the spool. Looking at you, eryone. The spool says "190 - 220 °C", the website "210 - 250 °C". 240 finally sticks and prints well after half a dozen failed attempts at a big frame-like model.

- A cartridge/box/container/bunch(?) of Pentel Ain Stein in 2B. Remarkably sturdy for such a soft grade. They write in a nice dark tone with little scratch upon rotation. Pleasurable haptics!

Edit 2025-05-12:
- A spool of conductive TPU for only 24 Eurobucks per Kilo as per limited time offer.

Also: Most spools thankfully come with a resealable plastic bag nowadays. Make sure to check the bag before mindlessly puncturing it like I did. Wet filament sucks.

A new vibrating alarm wristband. My purple one recently decided to randomly reset the date and time back to default values, so I didn't feel comfortable relying on it. The new one has fewer alarms (6 vs 15) but can monitor your body temperature and is supposedly waterproof.

A head lamp. It was available locally, which makes me happy. It thankfully has no strobe or SOS modes you have to cycle through. It does white light in short term turbo on demand, or high, med, low power modes - and it has a separate red light. Currently using the included Zinc batteries. Those will be replaced by NiMH so brightness will be worse than what I'm seeing right now due to the lower voltage. The battery box is on the back, with the lights on the front. It is comfortable as I just now remembered wearing it while typing this. The lamp part can be tilted in 4 predefined positions.

BTW the camera used to take this picture is now 25 years old and it's still a lovely piece of kit.

Edit: gave another one of those away for my neighbour's dad. Never met him but his daughter's always so nice to me and she mentioned she gave him a crappy head lamp after him liking one he saw. That should be a nice upgrade.

I was planning on waking up at 10am today, but my wristband had other ideas. It woke me up just after 7 notifying me that my body temperature was too high. In future I'm going to sleep with my wrist outside of the bedclothes.
