Well, Europa is giving Italy 81 billion euro (and a loan)

You would think Italy is a poor country, and in need of monetary aid from the other European countries... but that's NOT true, check out how much gold they have:

That's right, number 3.

If Italy would sell 1.587 ton of gold (which would give them that amount of gifted european money), there would still be 864 ton left, enough to stay in the top 10 of countries with the most gold.

Note how the United states has much much much more than the other countries. This is due to tricks, like helping in the Ukraine regime change, in exchange for the countries gold. Or invade a country, and take the gold, in return for giving "freedom".
And, oh yeah, also: https://www.nytimes.com/1997/11/02/world/nazi-gold-was-recast-and-issued-in-the-us.html

The UFO topic was raised yesterday again:

"Pentagon Consultant Briefed Senators on Discovery of ‘Off-World Vehicles Not Made on This Earth’"

"
Eric W. Davis, an astrophysicist who worked as a subcontractor and then a consultant for the Pentagon U.F.O. program since 2007 told the New York Times he gave a classified briefing to a Defense Department agency as recently as March about the alleged “off-world” vehicles. He also gave classified briefings on retrievals of unexplained objects to staff members of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Senate Intelligence Committee last October.
Davis said that in some cases he had failed to determine the source of recovered materials, leading him to conclude, “We couldn’t make it ourselves.”

It's part of a 750 billion package for the whole Europe. Since Italy is one of the countries that has been most impacted by the COVID (and still is with the impact on tourism) it's good that they get enough to help their economy. I think that selling the gold would make their (considerable) debt less secure, meaning higher interest rates, which would benefit no-one except the banks.

Plus money is dirt cheap right now: we don't lack money, we lack buyers to absorb the production surplus. So throwing money around sounds like a pretty sound solution. It only hurts banks who would rather have it be private money (their money) than public money. Then there's always the problem of making sure the money stays in the real economy rather than going to inflate bubbles and the bank account of billionaires, but that's another topic.

That's a strange thing to call a problem. Just slow down production and in doing that stop wasting resources.
Yes, except that with our broken economic system if we do that people don't get paid.
And while this crisis could have been an opportunity to start transitioning away from that wasteful and dangerous model, it doesn't look like any major power is considering it.

Also consider that one part at least of the production surplus is the rent paid to shops in towns like Florence. They could always close and some of them will probably have to in the end, but their intention at least is to keep them open for the few tourists that are about, and so that they're ready whenever this shutdown ends.

Yes, but landlords aren't generally well known for their civic responsibility in my experience. And perhaps in some of these cases the landlord is actually the local council, who are spending money right now like it's going out of fashion right now in putting up signage and things like that.

I wasn't suggesting to leave it to the landlords to lower the rent. Weren't we talking about, how the governments worry about small businesses. ;)

You did say the rent should go down, which is something controlled by the landlords. But yes, the government could pay shop owners to offset part of the costs of the rent, but they're already struggling with the cost of this pandemic, and generally at the moment are trying to cut out payments to people and expecting everyone to get back to normal, despite the science so far only ever getting more serious as time goes on.

I mean for the government to rule something like: businesses that are x hindered by the pandemic or the shutdowns owe their landlords only y percent the agreed upon rent. And to avoid determination of all those individual x, they'd do it category-wise.

Yes, the explosion of the fertiliser that port city is pretty remarkable, but just seems to have been entirely accidental thus far.

No no, I mean the OTHER gigantic explosion in China... no, wait, it was in North Korea, no wait.... it was in Iran... there have been many fires and explosions in Iran.
