Gp32linux And Opie :) [pda]

Ok, here's the rest of my info on the top row chatboard keys -

www, email, and sms will work the first time they are pressed, but are then disabled until another is selected (eg, press www then type away. www will not respond again unless email or sms is pressed first).

Attachment will work multiple times, but only if the chatboard is in www or email mode (as quite obviously a mobile wouldn't be expecting an attachment command for an sms)

Phonebook will halt the chatboard for several seconds. I presume it's waiting for the phonebook entries to be loaded, which on older mobiles could take a while.

Yes and No will both switch back to numeric mode, as on a mobile they would be used to return from something like writing an sms. Afterwhich the mobile would only be expecting numbers not letters.

So, basically, the best idea is to press WWW or Email once, then use Attachment as RETURN, and maybe in SHIFT+SPACE mode the 1, 2 ... 9, 0 keys could be used as function keys (F1, F2, ... F9, F10) You don't really need F11 or F12. Insert, Home, Page Up, Delete, End and Page Down you'll just have to work without :)

Yep, that would be one way. I tend to use shift+p for return for my stuff, which although being two keypresses it doesn't really bother me that much 'cos I don't need to press return much. Something like linux would need return pressing much more often though so your idea seems better :).

i ve compiled opie

Right, I'm definitily setting up a Linux distro now, I need to compile some shit :D This is looking great guys, I really admire you. If I get this distro set up over the weekend, I might be tempted to try 'n compile something like Matchbox, and TinyX.

If someone else is interested in cross-compiling TinyX:

http://www.handhelds.org/minihowto/building-x.html

You'll ofcourse have to filter out the bits where it adds touchscreen support...

The interface for the modem is fairly easy, seeing as mobiles use a command set which is fairly straightforward. I have a PDF here in which all the commands are explained. It's an AT command set, but not the standard Hayes command set.

good and bad news
----------------------
- it s seems we have a timer problem in linux , that s why some application take too much time to load
- toholl will work on the mouse driver soon , to 'relax' ;)
- i ve succeeded using chatboard with opie texteditor, but the key bindings are wrong, have to work on it some time
- i ve made an opie gp32 distribution
[90 MB !!! (with fonts, multi language support, and other stuff) ] , 25MB Compressed , have to test it when the mouse driver and timers problem will be ok

-cyberic is on vacations for two weeks, and i ve still exam next week and then have to work on my thesis, but i will mange to make some free time to work on gp32_opie

so expect more exciting news and progess in two weeks

(qpdf runs, but last time i tried i didnt saw anything , path , fonts or timer problem, dont know yet )

Hi guys I'm just back from holidays and going away again tomorrow...
I haven't made any progress yet, and I'll be back on the 25th.

Normally I should receive a serial cable soon (Tristan, are u there :) ), and I think that after some tests, that the GP will be able to browse the Web (connected to a PC with the serial cable)

The mouse driver is coming, the sound has to be investigated further, and we cannot write to the SMC yet, but the project is progressing quite fast... Thanks to Ingeras, expect to be able to read some PDFs soon! We are also working on a new improved toolkit, and after that we will build a correct documentation on how to port/cross compile/use apps.
Thanks to Toholl as well! As Ingeras said, the project wouldn't be alive wthout him...

We really need some skilled people to work on the kernel part with Toholl...

I think we should make a poll soon, to see what apps you would like to be included...

By the way, if someone wants to design a logo, or work on a more friendly website, help is welcome.

Bye and see you soon

This'll be sweet. I'll run a cable to the bed for some nightly web browsing. Would there be any chance of being able run something that I can talk to people on msn messenger with this?

And maybe even get a cable long enough to go to the bathroom :D. Sweet sweet porn...

Erm, I mean... for the online Financial times while I'm takin a dump .

some news
-----------------------
after days of nightmare
i made a gcc 3.4 libc toolkit for arm9tdmi [ gp32 cpu]
i compiled opie 1.3 (opie use qte , but qte can be used alone)
and qte 2.3.7
----------------------
screenshots i posted berfore where from
gcc 2.95.3, qte 2.3.5 , opie 0.9
--------------------------------

the result for now
============
helpviewer doesnt work anymore (it starts but then seem to freeze)
maybe related to the kernel timer problem ...
same problem for the new opie, no application working
and the support for qpdf has been broken in the cvs

by the way, the team opie is looking for progammers
-----------
so i hope it s related to the timer problem, and that it will be solved in the next weeks/months
-------------

as the mouse driver will be ready soon, we can already start to talk about applications
ah dont forget there isnt yet a write support for the smc card
the applications loading time is a little long, but once loaded the speed seems ok
