While not really a convenient measure (due to a broken implementation of strict-transport-security and crappy architecture on a lot of sites), deleting the default root ca store from firefox also is very effective in removing unwanted content.
 
I think we must simplify so all common people can understand (not all people knows about this questions).

I'm sure many would appreciate it if you simply would put the same time you'd need to write such long texts simply into improving your short ones, quite a few guys seem to suffer from facial palmation trauma after reading some of your earlier posts - it would surely help to make your point better understandable.

¿Small influence? Not only this Atom x5 has 4 times smaller transistors, so even it uses <strong>Tri-gate process</strong> -Intel is very good in silicon manufacturing process/techniques- .
Tri-Gate is not a process, it describes the structure of the transistors - it's actually a FinFET variant, but Intel avoids that term.

There are physical restrictions that prevent a 1:1 shrinkage when switching to smaller technology nodes, and these limits have already been hit years ago - you simply don't get 4 times the transistors on the same area just by cutting the nominal size of the lithography technique in half, it requires a lot more changes than just that. In fact, things got already haywire enough that those values became historic PR nonsense - Bill Holt himself already said about Broadwell that there's nothing that really is 14nm.

Obviously I don't expect those refinements in much old TI OMAP5.
There are still several steps in between the architectural design and the lithography masks, some of them do allow to improve the power efficiency of old chips by a few percent without investing a lot of money or touching the base design. TI uses their own custom low power process, though.

Their simple and repetitive structure allows them to be packed in a more efficient way, though... there's a reason flash chips have already reached 7nm. But while we're already looking at components: have you taken a look at the integrated chipsets as well? The periphery of ARM chips is connected rather... directly, that does save quite a lot of power.
 
I agree - and I just thought of an additional advantage to it. It could shorten the inevitable conversation with the US's TSA regarding this in-between laptop & phone sized device. As laptops get smaller and phones get bigger, I could see a TSA inspector deciding to call it a "laptop" because it is clam shell.
Exactly! So many good things, why wouldn't it be produced in a transparency case. I would buy it. Reminds of my old gameboy advance. Loved that thing!
 
Not past 45nm, and I think even with the 45/40nm OMAP4 they were already using other foundries. AFAIK OMAP5 is fabbed with TSMC and UMC.
Yes, I've read about UMC. I'd guess it refers to something a little bit higher leveled, so they don't need different machines - or maybe my source got it all wrong to begin with, this kind of information seems to be rather scarce.
 
FWIW, I've read that TSMC have a finFET process at 14nm and 7nm, but I don't know if they use that at the process the OMAP5 uses (which I think is 28nm, but I'm not sure).

OMAP5 is definitely 28nm, there are several sources for this. It's a 2012 part so it's not on a cutting edge process.
 
Yeah, I'm not sure you even really need finFET transistors at 28nm. As I understand them, they're something to do with shrinking the transistor footprint without shrinking the active surfaces as much, and possibly insulating things better from adjacent electronics, reducing the likelihood of quantum events. Perhaps when everything's 28nm wide, you don't have to worry so much about tunnelling.

Was hoping to use one of these tiny low profile USB 3.0 drives

Using an adapter would make using a low profile USB 3.0 drive pointless

Not sure of other brands but the Sandisk otg USB3.0 drive is dual port, so it sticks out like a normal size thumb drive.
 
I use an ultra fit USB 3.0 on the USB 2.0 of the Pandora. It is plenty fast for me and works just fine. I don't recommend using USB drives all the time even if they fit flush any way. It's an added power drain/heat source and not necessary with two SDXC slots IMHO. I ended up stopping using it full time on the Pandora simply for battery concerns, and instead put a linux install on it that I can carry with me and boot into from the computers on my wife's college campus. I use it for file transfer off the Pandora sometimes, but often SD/USB mini/bluetooth get the job done fine.

Of course, you may have your own reasons for wanting the speed here, but personally I find it to be at best a nice-to-have and not a necessity.
 
Use noscript and it adds to your add blocking capability while eliminating many trackers (provided you block their scripts and cookies) while reducing RAM costs dramatically and making more efficient use of your bandwidth. It's got a bit of a learning curve to get used to I guess, but it easily saves more RAM than it uses on many modern sites.
Bah, NoScript rubs me up. I really like what it does - but it breaks so many sites. Try and whitelist sites, but there's always something, and usually when you're doing a financial transaction, like the credit card verification iframe, as that throws up cross-site scripting errors. In the end, I get pissed off disabling it all the time and uninstall it. :-(

Everyone raves over uBlock Origin, but maybe I did something wrong, because it didn't really do much for me. One thing I do like in Adblock plus is the "Element Selector" (though it does seem to not actually work some times)
