Not much text here. Just a video.

Well, I won't write a lot here, as there's a video for you:

Enjoy (and discuss here).

And yes: The failed TWL4030 and 4G/LTE turned out to be a software issue.

BTW: Do you think I should write more text news posts or talk to you in videos?

Awesome! I do appreciate the video, and seeing the unit booting and running is cool. GIMP's probably not the best thing to show off new hardware with, unless you cut the loading times, but it loads about as fast as my laptop does.

That all said, it being in video form makes it harder to re-read and select bits to reply to. But maybe now that you're more likely to have stuff to show off, videos have that benefit as well. They each have their benefits, so really it's up to you; which is easiest for you to do?

Great video!

I like videos and would love to see more, but only if a video is really necessary, text works fine too.
When do you think we can see a video of the OS running off of the internal memory rather than a slow SD card?

It is 05:53 in the morning, Munich, the video was published a minute ago, and after looking it, 3 comments out, we must be nerds. :)

Nice video and do not spend to many time in making videos, make pyras xD
Any news, video or text, is welcome.

Thomas

Great Video!! Glad to see you looking less tired!!!! Was a nice way of showing off the changes for the case and other cool things which were mentioned.

If you have something to show, a video is great otherwise text is fine!!

Here's to the end of a long journey and to start building software for that beast :D

The problem with putting a "surprise" in the video is that we gotta use spoiler tags to discuss it.

PYRA PHOOONE!!!!

I like how you mentioned at least four times that this seriously won't get in the way of Pyra, you guys. I could feel the reassuring smilies. :)

I like Videos, expectly now that there should be a lot to show,
the only missadvance is that a Video is somethimes a bit divicult to watch, expetly when its postet 6am in the Morning where i should rather take a shower and then went to work..
A Text is more easy for me to read then, maybe in break or when i get the time..

Sounds great so far, and the Spoiler is also cool..

Thanks for the video @ED :)

Before I watched it, I was inclined to agree with @levi about being able to copy/paste or quote from text... however, what you're describing in the video would have not been easy to put in to words and is undoubtedly the correct medium to use to demonstrate it working.

You also don't need to write anything, as we're here to discuss details (and nitpick) anyway ;-)

I do agree with @levi about Gimp though, not the slickest of demos :p

Slight concern about the heating, and I am wondering what the current cooling solutions now look like. And I suspect that's glue on the front, but when talking about cooling the frosting on the top looked a bit like heat damage on the case to me.

And... maybe I should hold back on thinking about Purism for now... Can't wait to see the new video, or quick update! Thanks so much! :-D

Also, it's good to see you bright-eyed again and looking happy! Even if it was like... um... 4am!?

ED, you already got the money, so you don't need to do videos to convince people.
Just take pictures and use your time in a better way.
Those who will get units will do videos.
Your videos will come with mass production.

---EDIT:
Also, don't use gnome/mate...

If video is needed, like to show off a finished prototype and the state of the testing software, as long as video editing isn't too demanding on time, a quick video is awesome.
It was really good to see you looking refreshed. You may have sounded a little exhausted in the last one.

The picture posts of the cases by the new company were nice. It probably would have been a little over the top if that was a video. I think since the pyra is something that moves in your hands, seeing it in action which means it needs to be assembled.
Could the pyra phone have been a picture post with some text? Maybe. But since this was a first reveal it was cool to see it in a video.

Have the past text posts been informative enough? Yes. Your posts on details of the case progress, board progress, component process has usually been spot on.
When the units are finally ready to be posted, we don't need a video of them being loaded on a truck. A text post I think will be fine :)

I think variety has been very important. If it was all text the pyra may not seem realy. All pictures and it might not be alive. All video and I'd worry that it was being over sold. Although it's far from the PGS :p

I think for me it want be a big issue to run the Pyra underclocked, im used to the Pandora, 700 mhz Singlecore but apple to run DS Emulator was pretty neat ^^

It wasnt planed that he opened Gimp on the Prototyphe, just a "Miss Click"..
Some Times i also open some apps on my Pandora i ditnt wanted to

my *personal* preference would be for text, but really what ever is easiest (and quickest) for ED....

glad to see things progressing, even happier you've taken some time to recover...

Can someone provide a quick summary of the status, please?
EvilDragon is building the prototypes units with the old cases. They work. Test app was shown and buttons pressed, OS was booted, GIMP was run. Running at full clock with the heat sink the temperature rose to and stabilized at 45 degrees C: noticeably warm but not dangerously so; might want to underclock a little just to keep it comfortable.
Also Nikolaus (I spell that right?) has been working on a "Pyra Phone" which is a PCB which takes the same CPU module as the Pyra, has basically the same setup with a few differences (no keyboard, three microSD instead of one micro and two regular, etc...)
