Ridge Racers On Psp

But the discs are completely different and propriety would you buy films that you could only play on a portable at dvd prices

You're asking the wrong person...I don't even buy DVD films at full price! But I would be willing to shell out a similar amount of cash to able to watch a movie on the road, yes. My collection of UMD films wouldn't be anywhere near as large as my DVD collection...probably just a few classics for those long train journeys.

Well, the same thing happened with the GBA
people made their own carts after while
now theres GBA carts and linkers and.. stuff, I really dont know much bout gbascene
BUT!
sooner or later, proly soone cause theyd make a killing, you will be able to get a USB thingy and make ur own UMD's with movies encoded a certain way
they have USB thingys like that for GBA, one will come for PSP, and DS for that matter
Im buying the system the will offer the best multiplayer games
I think a FPS game on a 4.5 inch screen with a Headset and playin a few people in other rooms of my school would rock
I just wish Nintendo had made the top screen bigger
I loved N products, till they stoped increasing screen size
I might get one eventually anyways, but I am going to buld another computer before I get it
( just played DOOM 3..... WOW....now a friend wants a rig that can play it )

a flash cart is easy enough, but whenever a system has used discs as a format then the main harware has to be hacked not the CD

so a flash linker is unlikely for PSP i think, although a mod would probably be possible, but then where are you gonna get writable UMDs

well, honestly, thats my opinion
I dont care, Im allowed it
If you dont agree, dont get all mad, thats ur opinion
I respect ur opinion
and yeah, I know that the DS and PSP are going for 2 differant markets, Its just I dont think Inovation is the DS's big thing
I thinks its that Nintendo has usually had ( untill X-Box ) the better multiplayer games, and this thing is built aiming at multiplayer being good, fast and easy
thats what I think the DS has going for it, the 2nd screen is just an extra goodie, not even used nicely in most games

And they said that you will get 4 hours gameplay on high-intesity games, 6 or more on pong like games ( thats where the 4-6 hours thing came from )

~Octavious
Sony have said that battery life will depend on the game played, so this could mean a graphically intensive game could last as little as an hour.

And the DS and PSP are both aiming at the adult market, not differant markets.

How can you say the second screen is not used nicely in games? Have you played any of the games?

Likewise, nobody except Sony themseles know for sure how long the PSP's battery life is going to shape up so it's best to wait and see before we start quoting figures.

The PSP is aimed at 20 and ups (ie. College students to adults)
The DS market is predominantly 12 to 18 (ie. Junior high to highschool )

These are different markets with vastly different income brackets. Sure there may be some cross over but thats how they've been stating it for a while.

As for Battery life, they are telling developers to design their games in ways to reduce disk access and thereby attempt to extend the hours. The spinning up of the disk is likely to be the thing that burns battery more than the screen image so you could very well have a very intense game as long as it dosent access the disk too often it could last longer. (But this also relies on screen brightness.)

But Nintendo are aiming for the 20+ market too, did you not read my earlier post?

They are running adds in Maxim (ect.) in which the have a woman and some sort of touch thing, hinting in a sexual way, sure this will appeal to 12 to 18 year olds, but it is obviously aimed at an older crowd.

Nintendo know that sony will aim for the older crowed, so they are trying to get there oar in first.

Since Tiger Woods aint out for launch in Japan, I've changed my pre-order to Ridge Racers. Unbelievable how poor it looks on the DS, I think we know where the time was spent.

It will be like 1995 again, ah the memories of getting my PS1 with Ridge Racer, Destruction Derby and Fifa 96 (it was good back then, ha ha ha).

Ah, the new era has begun. Hail PSP, hail.

I could make a game like armored core where you can have an in mech mode and an out of mech mode (for exploration, missions, street brawls, etc..) A custom part creator mode (Don't like the selection of guns/melee weapons? Combine and tweak.) Texture importer, but if it wasn't on a nintendo system, it's not innovative

Similarly, I could make a game with overly simplistic graphics, and it's about chaseing after a featureless chick and stabbing the screen with a stylus on the DS and it's suddenly the most brilliant thing since the tesla coil

Nintendo used to be "Quality not quantity!" I wonder what happened there... (looks to the horde of expendable pokemon games, cheap licenseing grabs, and total mutiliation of the classics) a kirby game where you CAN'T CONTROL KIRBY is not a game at all.... and also.. MARIO, freaking, PINBALL!

And to finty, they said 4-6 hours, I don't see why you're trashing it for that when our own beloved GP32s only get 2-3 hours at max clockspeed...

And this is coming from a long time defender of nintendo and fan, then I woke up and realized nintendo was SCREWING me...

(Cube, bait and switch the zelda games! OH NOES! THEY'RE RELEASING IT NOW AFTER THE FIRST HALF-ARSED ONE!) (Starfox 2 for SNES, finished, scrapped, earthbound 64, probably finished, scrapped... Lots of gamecube games I was looking forward to never saw the light of day (raven blade, Thornado...) And the portboy advance, and now the nintendo DS... (Takeing away my 2D side scrolling mario game and makeing peach star it, mutlilating kirby, etc...)

Plus, instead of having an analog stick or anything such as that that costs a WHOLE EXTRA DOLLAR to implement into the system probably... To play mario 64 on the thing semi-properly you have to use a cheap plastic nub on the wrist-strap. And that just doesn't work.

I'm waiting the flames for the nintendo vets, but really. You have to be blind or jaded to not see that nintendo has run out of steam.

I've just read about the protective coating Sony will put on the Psp's screen. Supposidly during tests the only way they damaged it was by cutting it with a knife, normal everyday wear and tear(i.e psp in pocket) did nothing to the screen.

Do you mean the wind waker by first half arsed one or the four swords? I was really enjoying the wind waker till my disc buggered up. Really need to get another copy. :(

I don't have much against the DS itself besides the Faux Innovation (Two screens+touchscreen= abstract from logical function, not innovative)

Heck, if the new sidescrolling mario game is ever released, i'll get one.
And maybe a few other first parties... But for now, I see nothing on it that I want besides warioware, and i've made a note not to buy a system for one game.

I get a lot more than that...

<defends nintendo> I *do* think the DS touchscreen is innovative... </defends nintendo>

personally i hope both systems are a success... it seems there are plenty of people that like the look of both the new major handheld systems, and i'd hate to get stuck with the new gamecube (great games, just not many...)

the big screen for PSP looks great... but i dream of a world where i can just buy my DS and mariokart, turn it on, and be presented with 2 or 3 other human players to kick arse with...

(and pictochat looks great)

has the psp got any sort of networking thing like nintendo is envisaging?

The graphics are great, but there's one tiny problem. Racing games are boring. Sure they'll come out with other types of games, but Sony never has the games that I enjoy playing on a daily basis. I think PSP will only do better because it's going to be more commercialized and sensationalized just as Ps2 was, but it will never be as good a gaming system as NintendoDS. Nintendo has always put out the best games (in my opinion) and to me that's the most important thing.

The way video gamers are here, they look past the fact that they'll have fun with a gaming system just to be mesmerized by eye candy. It makes me sick.

Just to show how well DS is doing atm it has recieved nearly 2 million preorders in Japan alone

nintendo only plan on shipping 1 million DSs globally before the end of the year

the PSP will almost definately catch up

heres hoping both will suceed as they are very different and there will be few ports from console to console (as with the home consoles)

Portable Multiplayer Wireless Smash Bros on the DS
vs.
Portable Multiplayer Wireless Burnout on the PSP

...Neither one is announced as far as I know but I'd definatly say either one would be kick ass. For this reason alone it's worth buying both.
