ok I know I've heard some people saying that the can't get any great
music tracking software running on their GP32's emulated or whatever.

I was searching for GBC ROMs when I came across pocket music for GBC
so I've downloaded it and it seems to work fine on fgb32. I may write a review
on it later but I really don't know how good it is compared to other music tracking
software. I do remember an old issue of Nintendo Power showing how to make
the super mario bros theme on it. I'll look for it later though :p .

Anyway just thought some of you guys might want to check it out.
Good luck finding the ROM though

Well I must not have known how..it took me forever

anyway I found the article on it in Nintendo power (5 pages long)
with a walkthrough to make the SMB theme

its in volume 156 if anyones interested

If it was possible (time permitting, As i know you are extremely busy with a hugh array of things) that skeetix was able to improve sound (sampled, I think). We could have a bloody great time using these, http://marcer.dyndns.org/digitrack.html. Most of them work, Especially protracker (Looks and performs just like the Amiga version :)), Except that sound gets all garbbled about 5 seconds into any mod i have tried in any of them that do work. So near, It`s a tease.

I really don't know anything about the ST or the emulator (all I know how to do is start-up stunt car racer  ) but would it be possible (if he fixed the sound issue) that we would be able to save the file/song as something our computer could play?

Also, are there any other music tracker runable on the GP32 through emu's? did the c64 have anything?

as afr as i know, a couple of empty disks are kinda included with castaway... you could save stuff on them using the 'swap disk' function, or maybe just put one in drive B.

edit: 'something our computer could play' you mean the PC, right? umm... well STEEM (atari ST emulator for PC) can set up a PC folder as a harddrive... upload a disc image from castaway, load it into STEEM, copy the files from the disc image into the ST hard drive... this would show up under windows as a normal file... I don't know much about trackers, so that's as far as I can go... But that's how you transfer files from GPcastaway to PC...

The "basic" .mod format of 4 channels, 64 notes per bar and 32 instruments (samples) per song (mod file) is universal across all platforms that support the mod format. But there has been a lot of changes and addition to the format over the years since it was first created, Such as upto 64 channel (possibly 128), 16bit samples, support for alot more intruments (was 32) etc. So you could load a mod file you created on castaway into a pc tracker program and play it or even re-edit it if you wanted to.

Are you guys serious? It only took me about 3 minutes to find.... and I'm on dial-up.

But then again, I go to the romsite that appears to have every rom that ever existed, even GBA.

I know I can't mention the name here, but I'll give you a hint: it's German.

Ok, see, I have MTV Music Generator for PSX, and I freaking LOVED IT!

So I got MTV Music Generator 2 for PS2, and it's ok, but I like the first one better.

And then guess what? Pocket Music is almost exactly like MTV Music Generator. So Pocket Music for GBA. :)

Sadly, none of these 'trackers' gives me the customizablility that I want.

Have you tried Little Sound DJ? That rocks. :) It's a demo though, so you're not allowed to save (hello save states. ^_^), unless you purchase the full version. Google it, I'm too lazy to find the link. :p

Nanoloop is also worth a mention, though you'll get a massive headache trying to figure out the interface.

Edit: Sudden burst of un-lazyness: http://www.littlesounddj.com/

hey drag..
are any of those GP32 compatible, like through emus and such?

I'll give it a try right now. I'm going to edit my post with the results, so hold on a sec.

Edit:
Little sound DJ works like a DREAM!!! :) This is the best tracker/sequencer whatever there is for GB[c]! :)

Works fine on fgb32

You may want to turn frameskip all the way up so you get the 100% correct tempo and stuff. Movement is very scarce in this program, so you won't notice the frameskip.

It takes a little bit to get used to the interface:

hold select and press the arrow keys to navigate between screens that serve different functions.

Hold A and push the arrow keys (up/down makes a big change, left/right makes a small change) to enter data, or change data.

Press A and B together to delete something

Hold B and push the arrow keys in the track editor and stuff to navigate the patterns and stuff.

To make a song, go to SONG, and put a number in a track. Then go to the CHAIN screen, and put another number there. This number is the pattern number. Go to PHRASE and put 16 rows of your song in there. Then go back to chain, put another number in there, and go back to PHRASE and edit that phrase number. etc etc.

I LOVE to mess around with the instruments, and the pcm wave. :)

The website has a pdf that explains how to use it.

Did you have any luck with the drum kits? For me they all play as constant noise. I'm guessing this is an emulation problem, but I can't be sure as the noise synth works fine in other roms.
