Hiya,

Anyone considered reporting him to ebay?? he states that he has already had a warning but has made one tiny error he has listed the dvd twice once under a brand new ebay id and the other under his old one!!! in his listing he even states that he has started a new id so he doesnt get banned!!!!

Simon

MrGp32DVD, I am sorry, but what you are saying is absolutely stupid. eBay rules state that you are not allowed to sell the DVD, and still you say you are allowed. The price you ask for is far too high to cover the cost for the disc and shipping. If the coders give their OK and you would only charge what you actually paid, I would say nothing against it, but what you are doing is making profit from someone else's work and that is not OK. I would have no problems informing eBay about it and I am sure they will look into it, but why don't you actually do what you say you want to and drop the price to, let's say 1 or 2 pounds plus shipping? Don't tell me you can't get a DVD for that price. Your time, sorry, but I won't pay you for your time, because you want to help the community (yeah, right... doesn't like it at the moment) and that involves spending time. The GP32X file archive does not charge for bandwidth cost.

Firstly...................

I wish you guys would read the whole thread!
Ive already stated that I am more than happy to upload the entire content for this site to host if they wish to.
This DVD is a reaction to the amount of time it takes to get all needed software for the GP32.Also its there for those with dialup or slow internet or no connection at all!
On the DVD are also guides to everything GP32.
Once u have the DVD you have it all.
It offers a convenience.Even those against it is this forum really want it!
I am charging a small amount of money for this convenience and thats it!
To justify this service I charge for it.
Everyone who has the DVD is delighted with it!
I have now had more emails from people who find alot of what you guys are saying rather silly and immature.
See one of my above replies for a copy of one of them.
Also check my ebay feedback....you will note many thanks for help with GP32.

Secondly........

All programmers so far have had no objection to the DVD!
Its just kids that seem to object to it!
Well my suggestion is why dont YOU put a GP32 DVD on for £2??????
For me this would not be worthwhile.
Or better still do something more constructive than just moaning about something that has nothing to do with you.

Thirdly.........
I did have 1 cancelled auction on ebay after some fool complained.
I have sorted everything out with ebay and they are satisfied that I am not selling anything illegal. My auctions are left alone now!
Even if I was banned that would hardly stop this DVD as new accounts can be setup very quickly.
gobie73....you think I made a mistake? lol far from it!

Lastly..........
There are more people who think the DVD is great than those against it!
Think about that! You are a minority if u are against it!
This DVD helps the community as it keeps more people using their GP32's for longer. If u think thats also bad then god help you!

New and mature comments are welcome other comments will now be ignored.
To be honest its the actual GP32 coders that I wish to hear from.
Everyones elses opinion is really of no relevence.

Well, saying that most people are SATISFIED with your DVDs doesn't have anything to do with legality - if I would sell a DVD full of illegal roms, the guys who buy it from me will be satisfied as well, I'm sure.

If you REALLY want to do something for the community, make it as cheap as the DVD-R + shipping costs.

A guy once asked me here if he could get a copy of the GP32x File Archive.
I burnt it on three CDs and ONLY charged the shipping price - 1:1!
So I even LOST money... I could do this as it was only one. If I would burn more, I'
d charge the CD-Rs and shipping, AND NOT A CENT MORE!

If you follow some other threads: I'm planning for sometime next year creating a CD / DVD with GP stuff on it. Before that, I'm going to ask EVERY coder if that's okay!
If everything works out, it will be available for about 5-10 $, the money I make from it will be used to pay the pressing of the CDs (NO burning, you read right!) and the rest will be divided up and donated to the coders.

I won't make ANY money from it!

You don't think it's worthwile doing it for nothing?
You don't think anybody would sell a DVD for two pounds?

I set up the whole GP32x File Archive, uploaded and sorted all the stuff myself (over 400 files in less than 2 months already!) and also wrote descriptions when I didn't have any included in the readme...

It's a HELL of a work - I didn't count the hours it took me (and still takes me).
And still I don't get the money for hosting the site by placing a few ads...

Okay, it's not selling a DVD for just two pounds, it's worse...

Kojote is doing similar stuff for ALL roms on pdroms.de - also without charging any money.

I could do the same as you and make tons of money by selling the stuff I have in my archive, I'm sure. Kojote could even make more money.

Still, we don't do it - as it is illegal.

Whether you tell us "I'm doing a good thing for the community!" or not, it still is illegal and will ever be.

Selll your stuff for 2 or 3 Pounds, and everything's fine.
And please don't tell me burning is that expensive, you can get DVDs for less than 2$ nowadays.

Don't take me for wrong - I like the idea you have - helping the community by selling DVDs with freeware stuff.
But if you charge more you have to pay, either ask all the coders if it's okay with them or lower your price...

Maybe I should just close down the GP32x File Archive and link to your DVD - 'cause you showed me that helping other guys without getting paid for is not worth it...

I'm technically a dev, I made gor! I complain!
This has everything to do with us! most of the gp32 developers browse this forum regularly!
HELLO? THIS IS WRONG! IT'S ILLEGAL!

I will probably be ignored for my immature comment (it does not congratulate you on your splendid work that furthers the community), but I'll post anyway.

First of all, I severely doubt you have asked all the devs if they want their program on your DVD and if you may make money from it.
Furthermore, you are not exactly helping the community, you are providing a service. If you would want to help the community, ou would sell the DVD for the price you bought the disc for and ask the developers for their OK. Now you asked why I don't put out a DVD for 2 pounds (I know it was a rathorical question), and the reason is that EvilDragon is about to produce a DVD in a better quality than I ever could and that I do neither have the patience nor the dedication to ask every coder if it would be OK with them. Oh wait, that wouldn't be worthwhile either, right? It wouldn't be worthwhile to really do it for the community, you said it yourself, you wouldn't earn anything, you won't do it.
For your third point, I suppose I will do the same as the fool. Man, am I immature.
And lastly, I don't care if I am in a minority with my opinion, I will defend it anyway.

Everything else aside, I find that comment hard to believe.

How many people have bought your DVD? A couple dozen at the most in the past month it seems, from looking at your feedback.

Now, how many people use this forum and the GP32 archive regularly? How many different coders use this forum regularly?

I hardly think we (this forum in general, I'm not a coder myself) are in any minority.

I personally can't see anything wrong with the DVD itself. Since there are no ROMs or full versions of commercial programs, that's fine. Like everyone else here, it's just the price that it sells for. At the risk of repeating everyone else, it shouldn't be more than a couple of pounds plus the basic postage costs.

Oh and a note to the people runnings this board/archive - if Mr GP32 DVD really has offered to upload everything on his DVD for free, why not take him up on the offer and set up a bittorrent of the DVD?

here endith any credit you may have got

you clearly are out to make money & not to help the comunity

it's would cost less than £2 to make a DVD, in fact I would say if you just sent a DVD disk only in a jiffy it'd probably cost you a total of £2...I'm not against paying for 'time' - but 10mins to burn a DVD - come on £5 (all inc) is a fair price for everyone, and to be honest you'd probably tripple your sales.

I assume you're using the very best quality disks, in a DVD case with printed covers and everything for £13?

what a scumbag! maybe craig could shed some light as Doom would definately be his work.

and how can he justify putting Half-life on there!!!

edit: and he's already sold some looking at his feedback items

DOOM was ported by Tom Forsyth, not craigix, he just likes to take all the credit for it.

I have had my auction removed from ebay due to complaints.
I imagine this is from some of you guys...."How Sad of you!"
What a shame but I cant say im bothered as Its really not worth all this hassle.
All this over a very useful collection of free stuff for a minority console!
Its a shame because alot of people have now noticed its gone and are already emailing me for copies!
Instead of taking such action those concerned have now removed any further options relating to this collection.I made many offers and was going to bring the price right down and upload the image to this site.
Now I really feel that I dont wish to help such foolish people.
I will offer it to another gp32 site instead. Those that helped bring it down should not benefit from it.

I really hope this community sorts out something otherwise its bye bye gp32 in <2 years. There are so many people selling gp32s on ebay just because they get bored through limited and hard to find content.

I hope you realise what u NOT achieved here!

Im happy because I have enough content to keep me busy on my Gp32 for years yet!

I've been thinking whether to post this or not for a while.

I've been collecting GP32 files for a while and have bought this disk to see whats on it (although it has not arrived yet.) Currently I have 1 gig of stuff but no bor mods yet. I've also created a txt document of sites.
If I post a list of files for people to give permission/ tell me where to get permission, whether I could release a DVD for 2/3 quid maybe £4 I would like to keep about 25/50p profit per disk (mostly to help me with art supplies and other stuff, possibly a night course on programming) and then donate the rest to programmers though pay pal accounts.
I know about DVD-r's being wrong to sell on the ebay but they actually seem to have no problem with it.

I would honestly donate to rest of profit to gp32 programmers though pay pal and would advertise thier sites on the disk. So I'm wondering how people would actually feel about that?

i think people would be fine about that, you are actually helping devs instead of annoying them with false claims about "totally legal" and "i'm not a theiving sod who steals of freeware producers"

WTF? I am constantly correcting people that it was by Me, Rob and Tom (See the credits screen, whos name is at the top?), it is absolutely a team job, are you saying me and Rob did nothing?

Have a look at V2 (Toms final version with no sound) and then the latest V10.

What do you speak of? There are very little people selling their Gp32's on Ebay.

I actually think that Ebay may be pulling a lot of the GP32 auctions because of people including Roms witht them. The # of GP32's on Ebay have dropped considerably in the last 3 weeks.
Also GBA Flash Carts are MIA on Ebay lately also.

I think the Ebay police are cracking down...

Yes, I know you have worked on it, which I salute you for. However, you tend to get all the credit, whether it is intentional or not.
