Hi,

I was looking at the GP32 on the internet for like 4 hours this morning, and I think it rocks. I love old 2d games, and I love the fact that I can watch movies with it, and I really like Japanese/ Japanese style games.
Well my questions are:
- Where should I buy a BLU from ( so I wont get those annoying lines I've heard a lot about)?
- What model? like 166mhz, or below, does it really make a difference?
-What size card would be OK for a movie and a lot of games?

Thanks so much in advance,

onlinebacon

PS: I live in Pakistan, so it would be good if the site wouldn't mind to ship it internationally :)

You'd best want a 166mhz one.
BLU+ problem has been fixed, so just get one of those. Every major prog now works.
Try either GBAX.com or ebay.
Oh, and get 128mb Smartmedia, biggest it will fit.

don't forget that there may be a sd card upgrade available soon which would boost memory card capacity upto a potential 4gb (2gb at the moment)

serious movie watching ability!!

Yeah for shipping worldwide easily, gbax is the best shop I think ;)
mh and for the "sd card update".. I don't think you'll be able to "buy" one right now :p

as i said, it may be available 'soon' and would be essential for watching movies as 128mb is virtually a waste of time for any decent length of video especially at a quality worth viewing.

You might want to get two 128 mb cards.. one for games and one for movies... that should work out well... And i believe you can find the smc cards for cheaper than at gbax.... just try looking on amazon.. should be able to find a 128 mb smc card for lke $20 Usd.. but if you dont want to deal with mulitple orders you could just get them from gbax...
Ignore the stuff about 4 gig upgrade... someone recently got it to work and it prolly wont be available for anyone else to try for a while...

Yeah this forum rocks... sooo helpful... :D

i disagree that it should be ignored as it proves that the GP32 has lots of potential to still fulfill and is pretty relevant info to someone who puts a lot of emphasis into playing movies as 128mb is very very restrictive.

If playing movies was your biggest reason to buy, you would probably go for a psp or a zodiac as they both have the capabilities to store huge amounts of data straight out the box (with a memory card)

I'm just saying that talking about stuff like 4 gig sd card mod may be confusing to newbies.. as was the gba emulator that we have, which lead many to think that the gp32 could emulate gba well which it cant....
Movies can turn out good ona 128mb smc if you use some nice encoding settings...

thats true, and going back a couple of years ago there was screenshots from a 'supposed' french programmer who reckoned he had a working emulation of the n64 running on his gp32!! and i'm sure that some gullible people were justifing it saying it was definitley possible..............ahhhhhhhhhhh, how young and foolish we were!!

Dunno if they ship worldwide, but they are pretty cheap!

Nice to have you abroad! I would love to go to Pakistan, got offered the chance to go once, but couldn't....

for uk buyers, i see that currys are selling off their 128 cards at 9.99 each, but you have to pick those up instore - might be worth picking a couple up ready for the next mame release from franxis

Thanks everyone :)
It's nice to know that such an amazing product has such a nice community- a lot like the linux one :). The GP32 looks like it is good, and I saw in one european shop they had it for like 90 quid ( still working on english currency, just moved here from England) so I might give them a try, if they dont give it barclaycard will sort 'em out :).

Thanks so much
