Opensnes

Reesy this is seriously good work mate, very appreciated!

I can remember back in the first days of the snes emulator, Esnes it was called i think it was the first on the block for PC. I was happy just to see graphics, let alone play the game. Other emulators have come and gone in that time, I even did a stint beta testing for sneese, little did I know then I'd be running an emulator on a cool hand held.

So just comparing this to what was available back then its amazing.

I see people writing about how gp32 will never be any good at snes. I for one think thats not entirely true. Seeing this run at such a low frame rate is proof of that. I think its all about code optimisation. It is true to say that the gp32 has its limits though.

Have you set yourself up a paypal donation account? I'd be happy to pop some money in there.

Would you consider doing more than the sound upgrade in the future?

Cheers

Super Castlevania 4 runs and sounds great I forgot how awesome that game was. Reesy seriously thanks. Oh btw can there be possibly a clock speed bug. I can usually clock in at 156 with various emus except for this one. Also now i cant even seem to clock in at 150 im at 146 now that so far seems to be stable. Emu still runs great even at that speed.

it's because osnes is very processor heavy.

hi Reesy,

I don't know if it's a bug i'm used to play @180(with all emus which allow it) and now it freeze after 1min and it work great @176.

Maybe something has gone wrong in the clockrates of the last release?!?

Cheers

The save's are working with older ones too, but the attacks in ff6 sound really weird.
Please consider adding in the transparency hack thing... would it be hard to do?

Just tested it out, the sound quality is AMAZING!! Please keep up the excellent work! I would love to send you some money for this and DrMD but all of my spare money went towards the gp2x, i will probably donate to you later when I get some more $.

Also, if you get time, would you please port this to the gp2x when it comes out? I would love it even if you didn't take advantage of the two processors, as i don't want to have to carry my gp32 and my gp2x around with me everywhere I go to be able to play all the games I want to.

Once again, THANKS!

Speaking of saveing working do you guys mean save states or sram? For some reason my sram will save but it wont work the games wont reconize them.

What is Reesey's paypal account?
We need to drop some cash into his pockets for this project.

@deadlychicken22: I'm sure someone else will be porting a snes emulator to the GP2X so I wouldn't worry. I've got my own project to port before I take on any other projects.

@Goity: You'll probably notice small problems with sound in some games. This is because the irq system doesn't allow you to make small updates to the sound buffer when sound registers change. This is not something I'm going to try and fix, fixing it would only slow the sound rendering down. Once again I'm only going to add the pocketSPC sound core and then I'm done. Somebody else can pick up the source code and fix the rendering issues.

@hercule18: It could a problem in the way I set the clock speed. I've noticed that it locks up at high clocks speeds that I can use in DrMD. I'll see if its something that can be fixed.

SCREW the sound, I just want to be able to play Chrono Trigger without an impossible amount of hassle. Could you please just fix the transperancy issues.

Good job though. :)

Someone may port it but a quick PC port will run like shit even on the GP2X and linux will slow it down even more. It will need to be highly optimised to run well. Since the team that did this one is gone it may be a VERY long time before anything even as good as this shows up on GP2X. I hope it does show up but who knows.

The source code for this GP32 SNES emu sat out there unchanged for a very long time. I fear that it will likely remain in the state of your last update likely forever. It is too bad but there just aren't many devs that can or want to do things as well as you do. You mentioned that messing with ports like this is not very fun. Would making one from scratch be more fun maybe? I know it would be alot more work.

Uh-Oh, I guess Angelfire got pissed and stopped hosting this file. Does anyone have this file and can send it to me at reaper79@rationalanarchy.com, or can we get it hosted here at GP32x? Got home from work to try it, and now the hosting for it is no more, can't download.

Cheers!

I'm having trouble loading my saves from my pc. I used to transfer the saves (not save states, the .srm files) back and forth from my pc and my gp32 and now it looks like it won't recognize the saves, its making me start from the beginning! Am I doing something wrong or are the saves not yet working?

Reaper, i can send you the file, just wait one second.

he will release the source to his version, porting it to the gp2x wont be that hard i think. So will atleast have a good snes emu with this one, if not someone is allreadys working hard on one

hey reesy
when you touch an emu as, uh, legendary as osnes9x, of course you're gonna raise a bunch of heads in this scene. esp. coming off the recent successes (DrMD specicifally) and when you go about updating an emu like this one, which has been asking for an update for soooo damn long.. well of course everyone's gonna start hoping and asking for more shit ("just touch this one last part!! just do that to it!! just port it up!!"

well screw it. i don't think any of us ever expected it to ever be looked at again in any regard, let alone touched and improved at all. It's totally cool if you tweak it as you see fit and are done with it, most of the folks around here understand that. Many of us aren't programmers and can't understand what it actually entails to just "add in a transparency hack" or "fiddle with the ASM" or etc., especially when dealing with someone else's code.

Anyway enough of my kissass-ness, just trying to make a point and say thanks for doing what you be doing. I'm sure you've learned to filter out the "gimme!" guys a long time since, anyway..

i agree. just a slightly better emu is all i really expect to come from this. Some good advice is never get your hopes up; we're already getting more than we cud hope for. thanks reesy :)

Wow, I can't believe it, am I the last person to want to download the new Osnes9x by Reesy??? The link is down in his post, and it can no longer be download from. Can someone post a link to the file? Or just email it to me at "thanks to those who emailed it to me"? I'll host it if no one else will.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers!
