ok, I just got a BELKIN ADSL 2+ High Speed Wireless Router (the 125 version B) ) and was wondering if its a good Idea to have firewall software on each computer or is the inbuilt firewall in the router good enough to stop attacks?

Installed Sygate on my computer but it wont allow me to load some pages unless I click allow all :(

Just use the one built-in to the router, That should be more than enough. Running a software firewall on each machine aswell maybe a bit of an overkill.

I`ve been using just the built-in firewall in the routers i have had and never had any problems.

I say you don`t need them, But it`s up to you.

EDIT: Was holding the dictionary upside down, Silly me.

thanks for the replies.. will probable just use the inbuilt firewall... so far the Routers attack Log is empty which is a good sign :) hehe

ok, Heres a Screen shot of my Settings, Which one would block pages from loading sometimes? -

I use two firewalls - one on each PC and one on the router. The router firewall stops incoming attacks, and the PC firewall stops outgoing attacks (in case you get something that somehow gets past your primary firewall and infects your pc - eg. something in an email).

It also shows you the suprising increase in the amount of applications that like to "call home" to make sure they have not been pirated or used on more than one pc.

No idea which of the settings affects web page reading - just disable each one until it works, and then slowly re-enable until it stops working. I only use the free version myself.

I know I had problems with Driver Level Protection before... you could try that...

I find that using just a firewall router is fine for me, I'm pretty good at what I install etc and I peridodically go through my systems with a fine tooth comb.

I tried zone alarm once, and it stopped me logging onto my domain and I couldn't get to my roaming profile  .

ok, Turned ALL the options off and still no ebay... so I did this Advanced Rule -

(Heres the Advanced Rule Summary) -

Rule Summary:
This rule will allow incoming traffic from IP address(es) "My ROUTERS address" on IP protocol type 1. This rule will be applied to SiS 900-Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter. This traffic will be recorded in the 'Packet Log'.

And Now EBAY works :D.... All I want to know, is that Rule Safe???

Thanks

dont know, When programmes try to access the Net (Eg Windows Media Player etc) it pops up saying "******** is trying to connect to the net, do you want to all this YES, NO, NEVER" etc
