I've been playing with my GP2X most of the day and and theres certainly stuff I feel it can do with, Hopefully GPH already have most of the stuff I'm going to suggest in the pipeline anyway

1) Better battery low warnings, Maybe a warning pop-up when batteries are going below 5-10%, or even the red led to start flashing (I dont think it does this?? I havent noticed)

2) A format SD Card option, Seems alot of peeps are having problems formatting correctly

3) Screen saver/Dim screen when left on the main menu, It'll just sit there eating the batteries until it dies, and this takes me onto no. 4

4) Some kind of hibernation mode, Can save boot up time aswell as save battery if system is left idle.

Those are all the things I can quickly think of (apart from the odd annoying bugs I've found, which I'm sure will be ironed out)

Anyone else got any more suggestions?

I love the idea of 2, 1 and 4 (in that order), well 1 will be fixed so that the led will be green when it has good battery power and red when it is weak.
Also formating card would be AWSOME, and hibernation mode would be nice.

How about support for more video codecs? Like h.264, all of the mpegs, better xvid support, and maybe wmv, but I dont' really care for that.

I'm looking forward to user-developed firmwares and firmware fixes as soon as the source is released. BTW, fix your images, Drak. I've never heard of imageCave, therefore it must suck. Use image shack.

Battery indicator light working properly
Longer Battery Life
Videos not freezing when your skipping forwards
Faster bootup
MP3 player made better ID3 tags displayed etc...

I'd like to see the UI engine scripted, so you can easily add your own screens with custom defined backgrounds and buttons.

I'd also like a directory on the sd card dedicated to looking for the scripts, and options to change the theme without manually replacing files. At least look for "teh_ui_script.txf" or whatever. Being able to theme without hacking the NAND to pieces is the biggest thing.

Also, I'd like to see animated images supported in the UI.

Other than that... bei

^It would be cool if you could customise that... People would turn it on to see a Black-Mage Hadoken. Then the GP2X logo...

Working USB interface (both in Win XP and Linux).

System loading progress bar.

Faster image loading and displaying.

Image slideshow (I didn't find it: maybe it's already there).

RTF e-book reading (and then PDF ASAP).

I'd like them to put "set bugs=off" in there if possible ;)

Seriously, tho, an SD formatting option would be a really good idea. Either that, or much broader & more forgiving FAT support and/or some proper Linux filesystems.

Can't comment on the other features, as I haven't been able to use the GP2X for anything yet. . . But a feature where you could install another Linux onto an SD card and get a menu on startup asking if you want to boot the normal GP2X or the SD card's Linux might be nice. . .

Lets see...

Necessary changes (i.e. such that it does what it ought to as a system):

- USB working (seems to only half be at the moment)
- CPU speed down, possibly after bootup (to increase battery life)
- Load speed reducing
- Video not to hang as much as it does
- E-book reader to include more than .txt
- GPL to be included in the info bit in Settings
- LEDs to work properly

Nice changes:

- Interface update to allow jumping between the first and second lines
- Zoom and drag on the image viewer
- Scriptable interface such that others can invent their own buttons, add animations, and generally make a slick looking interface even slicker
- Format for SD card
- Error checking for SD card
- Large cards to be supported
- Nand memory to be useable properly
- Even more battery life
- Even faster bootup
- Copy/Move functions in the file manager
- Suspend mode for quick startup (not necessarily where you were, just just-after-it-boots)
- Battery notifications; possibly automatic reducing clockspeed to 20MHz when battery levels hit 5-10% (which as always means there's only about 2 minutes left given how voltage levels tend to only decrease significantly just as they're about to run out). That's give you time to save and quit whatever (now running very slowly, but hey) before the unit died.
- Advanced mode in settings that lets you change a lot of meaningless values that don't make any difference but make you feel better about having tweaked your machine to suit you :).
- On that note, possibly an ability to register your name with the machine with passwordage such that its easy to check it its yours if someone nicks it (or at least, if someone without tech knowhow nicks it).

Unrealistic changes:

- Reveal that they really included a nice 3D chip and FPU in the units that they hadn't told anyone about.
- Flash support to be added
- .ogm and other container files to work properly in the media player with subtitles and possibly even the multiple soundtracks some come with.

That's not unrealistic (at least not like a hidden 3d coproc :)).

Does it seem that GPH will even fix these issues before 2006? its been out for roughly two weeks and hardly any of the problems have been fixed.

Tell my why??!???

Flash with 2*200MhZ why impossible on low Quality?

And why not ogm? I have lots of ogm Anime Series here... :/

I'd just like somebody to come round here and show me what to do with the thing!!!!

Seriously, what shall I do?

Flash support: Yes I'd like that. Doubt we'll see it from GPH, as it will take horus of dedicated code wrangling with OpenFlash, and as that project is behind the times as it is... Well, we'll see.

And OGM should work perfectly fine before long, I should think. Or it will as soon as somebody makes Movix2X or GeexBox2X.
