Well, i tried final fantasy tactics and all it gave me was a green screen :(

I ripped it with Winiso, converted it to a .bin file, and then compressed it to .znx with pocketiso 2.0. I would test the original .bin file but I don't have room on my SD card :(

I found that FF7 does not work with pocketiso compression.

I seriously don't understand what's going on here.

I feel the same. It all sounds very exciting but I am not going to spend ages trying to get my Playstation games into a bin file to be impressed but not actually play anything. I think the thing to do is just wait and see. It seems to be developing very quickly, so if it reaches a stage where games are playable and someone puts together an easy to use guide to converting your PSX discs to bin, this will be essential.

When I bought my GP2X I hoped for full speed SNES at best, but we already have a version of Quake that is way beyond anything the SNES (or Playstation) could do, so the future looks bright (I know emulation is different to porting games, but i am still very impressed). What will Rlyeh make of it all?

It's not really such a bad thing to help the author out, and giving other an gauge of performance and compatibility, is it?

I doubt people are loading up PSX games thinking they will clock FF7 tonight. People are doing it to help the community, or thrill seeking as hardcore emu fanatics. ;)

No, you are quite right and I applaud all the people who are doing their best to help this project along (although obviously the guy who is actually coding this deserves more praise).

Should you use normal compression or maximum compression?

I recommend using normal compression as z files run better than znx files on average. Just compatibility wise.

I also got the color conversion bug fixed. I'm adding some fixes for texture caching at the moment.

?....
I used normal compression and it still spit out a .znx file......

Am I doing something wrong?

EDIT: I tried using "use smallest video as source" and final fantasy tactics still didn't work, i will try the bin out as soon as I can clean up enough room on my SD card for it to fit.

I seriously don't understand what's going on here. Is this thing really running this fast with 3D games and 2D games? What's the catch? No sound, right? But still, without sound it shouldn't be running 20+ fps with 3D games, should it? Can somebody please make some videos of this thing in action, showing exactly how fast it is running (Preferrably, one 2D game (Bust-A-Move?) and a 3D game (Final Fantasy Tactics would be wonderful)? I'm just wondering because I want to know exactly how far you guys and the developer expects this thing to go (Full speed PSX emulation allowing me to play FFT would be undescribable).
I guess it will be come like the SNES was on the GP32. Rubbish. :p j/k

About the ripping of PSX games to bin files, you basically click on 'read to image file' or something along those lines in Alcohol 120%, wait 2 minutes, and that's it.
hmmm... All i see is "image making wizard" and when I use that I can only make it in .ccd or .mds, not .bin. Am I doing something wrong?

EDIT: I just tried out the .bin of final fantasy tactics and it didn't work :( All I got was a green screen

Sorry if this has been posted in the other thread and I have missed it, but I wonder : What happened with the Zodiac version? Will you still continue working on it? Perhaps the code from this version can be ported back to the Zodiac? :) I followed the progress on the Zodiac-forums, but it got quiet some time ago...

Can anybody please try to make some videos? I'm REALLY curious as to how good this thing really runs :D

so now there's two of us wanting to know how MGS works... considering it being one of the most popular PSX games, someone should try to make a bin and see how far the game gets... even though i've beaten that game several times... i never did it on the plane :)

I can confirm that Dragon Ball Z Final Bout works. This uses some 3D and runs at 15 - 17 fps frame skip 3. You can actually play through fights, throw fireballs etc even though it is very slow it shows great potential. I am going to have a look through the used Psx CD's store at the weekend so maybe I will pick up some more to test :)

If you;ve looked at the FF7 video you know about how fast it runs, that's probably the fastest i've seen any of the game run personally. The frame skip=60 FPS is a little misleading. it's reading 30-60 frames but the chug factor makes it look more like 4 or 5 frames per second. It's more playable for some games than others but it's still an issue to find games that will go past the title screen.

We should really start making a compatability list. I'm starting to rip my games now to see if they work (Chrono Cross first!)

EDIT: It works until name entry and won't load from the memory card.

Everybody is so excited about FF7 trying to work or the other ones they aren't trying other games. Not saying I don't like the games, oh wait, I don't (well I like 6, 9 and 10). But has anybody tested Xenogears (with version .10)? Spyro? Tomb Raider? Crash Bandicoot? Any good games that aren't related to Final Fantasy? And yes I've looked at the wiki.
