Where Is The Firmware

Really, people need to give it a rest. It seems people here either want to attack or defend GPH/Dignsys.

Sure, what they did (GPL-wise) was wrong.

I'm too laid back to attack them.

Sure, I like their product and don't want to see them go under.

I'm too put off to defend them.

Surely, I can't be the only completely neutral person here.

everyone should just stfu. I would rather have a 98% perfect FW released and wait a tad longer, than have one released that's 70% decent, have it fuck with my system, and have to wait another week for a patch. Chill out.

Im 100% behind this quote. Would you guys rather have a broken video and music player with a half decent lcd fix? I know i wouldn't. I use the music player all the time.

No, there's at least one other ;) There surely are wrongs to be righted, but I can't help but think that the way things have proceeded en masse are just going to piss off anyone who may have had good intentions to start with.

The source does need to be released and those responsible should be punished if they do not comply, but what exactly (I'd love to know) are some of the craziest screamers going to do with the source? Stick it under their pillow so they can sleep well? Judging by the ruckus cancer should be cured no later than three days after the source is released.

And I can tell you (as I work for a huge corporation) that the rabid reactions are exactly why most companies avoid GPL and Linux itself even.

The information wasn't public as such, but it's true. Dignsys had something to do that couldn't be delayed, so the firmware release got delayed instead. The firmware will come out eventually, so relax already...

I gave you a dollar, dont tell me to shush :D

I just want a little information, it would put me and others at ease.

If i wanted a $200+ brick I would have bought a PSP

I just want updates.
Any idea how long it takes to write and check software (even if they check the software not ideally).

I have been developing for 20 years, and let me tell you its NOT quick, it takes TIME, even with minor testing. Just think of the amount of integration testing that would have to be done on something like and OS...

Patience, it will come, trust me we will still be applying updates this time next year, well I hope so because it will mean that the product is expanding and going beyond the original plans..

Cant face it ? Then the PSP IS the system for you!
:D

I bet the GPL freaks scared them so not they are either reluctant to release anything because of the rabid threats that will come. Or they are re-writing stuff into modules so that the DRM can be removed from the source properly when the source is released. My fear is that this re-write and fragmentation will result in more bugs and/or horrendous boot times.

I have never seen such a reactionary community... alot of you not need whip the "stfu" around i'm only asking a question.

I simply asked for something that was promised, not much to ask for simple updates, even if in broken English, and no they have /. to thank as a scapegoat and to build excuses upon.

I understand that development takes time, I went tru the Zaurus "testing"

Dropping a 1 paragraph explantion of what's going on however takes no time at all.

What the fuck are you talking about. ;)

Actually, with your wording you seemed to be demanding information rather than asking for it.

I am hoping that people aren't waiting for the FW source so they can release their own half-baked versions of GP2X firmware for whatever reasons...

I don't use the 2X as much as I thought I'd be, but mostly that's from all the problems I've had getting a couple things to work. Having to buy another SD card didn't help much, but I would have needed the storage eventually anyways.

I came off that way, and yeah I jumped a little bit, but c'mon it's past the due date, and we haven't even gotten a oneliner explaining what's going on, just a bunch of "supposedly I heard this was happening"

Add that too the /. maniacs and the ill tempered people around here, and it's all getting a little unnerving.

Sorry if I jumped a bit, but I only am asking what alot of people are wondering.

it's kewl, im happy with the current 1.2 firmware, even though I'd like some new features, I'll be occupied with squidges snes emulator for hours on end! save states and sound woohoo! lol

Craigx (and anyone else in the know) - what are the implications of "in a situation indeed"? Could this mean the end of the GP2x, or updates, or what?? If GPL is cleared with magiceyes, will this mean that everything is back on track to keep regular updates and improvements to the GP2x in the future? I am sure everyone wants the GP2x to be as good, and as stable as it can be.

I imagine that it will mean that the souce will not be released until even more of the direct to hardware code is componentarised out of the souce files to be released, so that it can be submitted to Magiceyes again for inspection.

I'm not sure if they will hold off releaseing the firmware in that situation.

27th, plus need to clear the GPL with magiceyes. If they say no, we are in a situation indeed.
Thanks for explaining that for us.
Personally I think that they are in a situation not you if they say no.

Not exactly, the distributors are the first to feel the sting. :)

EDIT: By the way, thanks so much Craig. This is a double edged sword, it puts the faithful at ease, but I suspect it puts the suspicious more on edge.

Allan.

(I could have made mistakes, but Its far from a complete list)

I don't think you understand how much the GP2X needs GPL, owes everything to GPL, and couldn't exist without GPL. The GP2X is 95% GPL or a similar open-source restrictive licence(The ones that are are mostly *more* restrictive than GPL)

The reality is you don't like Linux, becuase you don't understand it and thats fine its not for everyone, but GPL you clearly missing the point. Perhaps you should stick to talking about joysticks LOL

Lets just hope the Magiceyes come good, because if we get the source code things are going to be really good for GP2X.

Thanks for the info Craigix, I think everyone appreciates being in the loop as much as possible.
