So very happy to hear about the progression. It's almost as good as the real thing.
Is it really? This emulator really intrigues me, but I don't really know how far this thing will go and how close it will get to full speed PSX emulation with sound (For 2D games and Final Fantasy Tactics). I thought right now that it's still really slow, especially with sound, and that there are a lot of compatibility problems?

D'ya think ff7 will ever be full speed and fully playable on the GP2X?

My guess would be that for the parts of the game that are 2d backgrounds with 3d characters the answer is yes. If frameskip can be implemented properly then it should be possible at either fs1 or fs2. As for the battle scenes, my guess is that they will remian slow for a long time. But who knows, it all depends what gets developed the most. If there were game specific hacks, I imagine FF7 would be one of the first that became playable...

on the last version battle ran 10fps faster than normal scenes though technically it was 2.5fps slower

Really? When I played the battle scenes they were still way slower than the rest. Especially smaller pre-rendered screens ran really fast for me. I've got a savestate in the slums and some of the shops in there were running at half speed, one of them almost fullspeed...

because Battles are running at half the framerate, on the psx.

Shouldn't that be twice the framerate? Or am i not getting something here?
basically, on the actual psx, battles run at 15fps, meaning for every 4 frames on a gp2x shown, you only get one frame refreshed.

I guess I'm gonna have to take your word for it. Just sounds weird that there'd be a comercial game running at 15 fps.

Well, I really meant that news was almost as good as a release itself. However, if it were to receive enough attention, I think that the psx emulator could run all games at a playable speed on the gp2x... eventually :)

anyone else made any videos of some games? i put some on youtube earlier in this thread. I think this is proabbly the best emulator for the gp2x :p

hmm... it might be an amazing achievement but it's by far not the best emulator if you ask me. It will be one of the best if it reaches a more sofisticated state but until then, gngeo and drmd are the top notch of gp2x emulation... and then there is fishynes and squidgesnes and gpengine and all the others... blabla rant bla... well you get the picture.

Anyway, I am looking forward to the next release! I just love to wittness software and scene collaborating and evolving together. It is an amazing process and experience...

please people look at the version nr 0.36 to me this says

A. its not ready
B. not halfway there
C. not even features are chosen
D. lots of room for optimization

i should wait until it bumps up to atleast 0.8x before i whine about performance

now look at the version nr of gneo2x drmdx

and zodttd said he,s working on a dynamic recompiler so it should take some blood sweat and time before next release

just what I wanted to say without saying the emulator was crap (which it isn't)...

Yeah, you can't really say it's usable at the moment for anything else than showing off. It's darn cool but you can't really play 99% of the games. :)

edit: note that I said "at the moment". The future reserves great stuff :)

Its cool that you guys criticize, but if you are really looking forward to this emulator or want to help it progress please consider donating. There are three amazing programmers working very hard to make psx on a gp2x a reality. I donated a few weeks ago and (if I secure some sort of job for the summer) I plan on donating again. If we keep an interest and continue supporting this project, it might evolve to one of the best emulators on gp2x.
