I can't get it to work. I have my SD card formatted with FAT32, I unzip all 9 files to the root of the card, and it just boots up normally. Two of the image files are gone after boot, but no "updating" screen, and it still says FW 1.4. What am I missing?

Same here, I upgraded mine last time from 1.21 to 1.4 with Firmware 1.4.0 Updater by Rob Brown

Looks like we will have to wait and see if Rob Brown brings out another Firmware updater.

Batman2.

I updated with Rob Browns 1.4 Updater too, but my 2.0.0. works fine.

I updated with Rob Browns 1.4 Updater too, but my 2.0.0. works fine.

Well I followeed all the instructions, even went to site for proper instructions.

Formated my 2GB SD card into FAT32 again.
Extracted all the files onto it.
Inserted some freshly charged NIMH2600 batteries.
Switched it on and it just booted like normal.
Tried again this time pressing START & SELECT.
Nothing just boots up like normal.
Noticed that it deletes 2 of the files that I put on to the card.

Oh well I am sure there will be other versions of this firmware sooner or later, I can wait as 1.40 is still fine on mine.

no.
I tryied many times copying from pc to gp2x.
Now buy a card reader, then pc to sd card.
Insert sd card to gp2x and finally work.
Without card reader I wasn't able to upgrade.

Hey Paisano (me llamo Vincenzo, LOL) are you just "cutting" and "pasting" the files onto the SD card with the card reader, or do you have to do something else too???? H.G.

hi!
A only copy the files in sd card root directory like I did before with the old method, that was "copy files from pc to gp2x with Setting>USB". Try 20 times and never work.
The only different was that after I formated again, I copy files from pc to SD by card reader, then inserted sd card on gp2x, and when I turned of I saw the firmware update screen (don't press nothing) at the first try.

CARD READER = problem solved

Thanks a lot "paisa" it seems real simple, but I'm still not shure I want to try it yet, there are a lot of people over at GP32Spain that are having problems, and I don't want to brick my GP2X just yet, LOL, H.G.

I have always been using an SD Card Reader, but I still get the same problem.

When people in this topic say "card reader", does that mean hardware or software?

I've been having the problem where it deletes two files, and I've been using a USB card reader, with card formatted to FAT32 and everthing. I copy the files across using Windows Explorer or mac Finder though.

Are there software apps for reading cards though? Is that what we're talking about?

I can't speak for DaviL, but I can tell you that I am referring to a 4 in one Card reader (hardware). Also, from what I can gather from the gang at GP32Spain, there is atleast one file that is supposed to erase itself during the process (GP2xboot. image). EDIT..... I just upgraded using a fisical card reader and it went smooth as silk (follow Evil Dragons instructions in the download section). Thanks to all for the advice H.G.

Me too
Tried saving my files, re-formatting my 1gb SD card, and re-copying the upgrade files to the SD. Seems to lose the image files as soon as you power on the GP2X.
ROB - come to our rescue!!

Don't panic gang!!!!!!!!! Over at GP32Spain, they tell you to go back and erase that file anyways before pasting the other 8 and rebooting holding down the start and select buttons at the same time. I followed Evil Dragons instructions in the download section and it went as smooth as silk; took the first time. H.G.

Yes also using a Hardware Card Reader and formating it in windows XP to FAT32 and extracting the files directly to the SD card where they all are until you put it into the GP2X, even pressing Start & Select does not work, just boots up like normal with 2 files gone.

Giving up on this one untill apps like Megadrive & MAME Emulators work spot on with it, as I have been seeing posts by people who have successfully upgraded only to find other programs need updating to take the new firmware in to account.

Firmware 1.4 is great give it a couple of month then I will have another look.

Try this.
Rename the card "disk" when you format, then copy the files, put the card on gp2x and turn on without start+select.
