Everything worked well for the upgrade procedure from 1.4 to 2.0,
but I just noticed that on my video playback, video will start stuttering
(at random times through the video playback) and eventually crash.

Noooo!!!!

About 30-40% of my GP2X Usage is for video playback!!!
This sucks.

I usually put an episode of scrubs or seinfeld or part of a movie on my GP2x
so I can watch it while I eat my lunch at work!!!

How good are the folks at the GP2X site with handling tech support issues like this?

Is anyone else getting this type of response after upgrading to 2.0?

If I would of known this would happen, I probably would have stayed at 1.4

I don't have much problem with it and I am using Scrubs episodes too ; )

I rencode mine to XVID with about 500kbs and on high quality, 320x240 of course. I only had the problem with one episode but it crashed in the same spot each time so I think it was just curupt.

is it the movie stops playing after a bit?
i have that with scrubs, so intead of watching it on "save" setting i watch it on "normal", fixes it for me.
..Yes the clip starts stutt tt tt ering then will stop playing (and lock up the unit)
I will try switching it to normal mode and see if that helps.

... Seems to be working. :) YAY!
What is FULL mode?

Scrubs lives! Sweet! Thanks guys.

I think its something like

Save - 100mhz

Normal - 166mhz

Full - 200mhz.

Basically Ive only needed Full for a 1500-2000kbps bitrate files I have tested it with.

I have the same problem since 2.0. I bought a gp2x for video playback...

Now I agree that you can fix things by re-encoding high quality files to get them playing under NORMAL but let´s face it....

We should not keep trying to work around faults. Things worked under 1.4 for me. 2.0 introduced the stutter problem when playing video with the FULL settings...

Hopefully this will be fixed in a future frimware version

Never once had a video problem. Its your files fault.

One, if your not reencoding them you should and to a maximum of 320*240.

Two, if you are reencoding it your doing it wrong some how!

I encode my videos tiny (50mb/half hour) so I have never noticed problems on save mode.

mine are like 100mb a half hour. :D

I usally just use normal, but I would not mind a 133mhz setting. Maybe just ditch 100mhz and do 133mhz, but it people can use save mod as it is they might miss it being there. So I say make, save and super save.

Changing the CPU isnt just what adjusts time. The difference between save and Full for me is 30-60 mins maximum. I dont even think its that much.

I have no clue what you just said.

I will take a stab in the dark and say, the higher the bitrate the higher the CPU clockspeed.

Im just wondering why no one is complaining that the gp2x cant do what gph said it could.

On their website somewhere gph said you could put stuff on it with higher resolution and the gp2x could play it back without the need to re-encode. I thought 'wow' this is amazing! This is another great reason to get a gp2x!!!

Well my 640X480 vids just freeze after a good 3minutes or so. My 320X240 work fine [mind you these ones are re-encoded.]

They are all xvid. Some are divx but you get the point. I just hope with future firmware updates the 'plop and play' method comes in handy. it takes 25minutes for me to convert to 320X240 since I use first/second pass. [virtual dub]

Tv-out function is pretty neat though. This is a nice feature.

I must be doing soemthing wrong mine are 60 mb per 5 minutes AWSOMe Quality though  :D

my files are perfect, it happens both on those i didnt create myself, and those i did.

it happens both to movies in 320x240, and higher resolution..

answer to one: why should i? the facts about the gp2x tells me that it can do it, it better damn do it, and it also does it, untill it crashes that is. (something normal mplayer doesent do)

answer to two: i fully know what i am doing, and my files are perfectly encoded.

conclusion: gph did some shit to mplayer, the video chip thing isnt being used properly, or the video chip is broken.
either way its a disasspointment.

Mine average out at 50/60meg Xvid for a 15 minute show and they are perfect quality,

You guys have tried Mediacoder right? It's a revolution in innovation.
