Well I orderd one and hopefully it should be here any day. Some questions.

Is the instruction manuel in english also?

Do you need to have a pc emulator to play emulators of snes, gbc, etc.?

Do snes games run well, how about genesis?

Is it easy to get the pc emulator and other emulators up and running?
And just overall how hard is it to run this thing?

Thanks.

I recently got a GP32 second-hand, and it wasnt too bad to setup - The game launcher was already installed and I emailed the seller with a couple of minor questions.

Once you learn where to install one emulator, the others are installed in the same way - I printed out the FAQ from this site where I learned a lot of new info, plus some of the guys on these forums have answered my questions very quickly.

Really you should be OK...

Rite, you really should have done more research before buying this thing. Its expensive and doesnt do the things you think it does. There is no pc emulator. You cant just stick pc stuff onto it. There is a pc engine emulator. Which is a console a little bit more powerful than the ninendo. Yeah the manual is in english, you get the emulators from this site and just put them on the card along with roms of the games u want to play. Snes is ok without sound, no where near perfect, same for genesis. And its pretty easy if u hav basic pc know how. But shouldnt you have asked these kind of things before you jumped in and bought one? Anyhoo, if you hav any more questions ask away.

Manual: English

GP32 has it's own emulators but uses regular roms.

Snes runs full speed (at a decent Frameskip) without sound, with sound it's not very playable. Both snes emus are discontinued, but Rlyeh is goind to work on fSNES and Yoyo's secret project might be a SNES emu. Genesis currently is in it's very early stages. There is only one public Genesis emu and it still a beta. It has no sound and runs almost full speed. But don't let this discourage you, Rlyeh also has a genesis emu, fGEN.

The only problem you could have is with installing the drivers. Some people have had problems with them (Including me), but everbody gets it all sorted out withing the first day. If you have XP, plug in the GP32 into the computer (make sure the cable is connected to the GP32 also), turn on the GP and wait. A box in the lower righ will pop up saying that a new device has been detected. Wait a little while longer and the New Device wizard should pop up asking for the location of the drivers, simply put in the directory of the place where you unzipped them when you DLed them.

After the first day it's a breeze. It's not really complex, it's really simple.

Snes is NOT "fullspeed" - unless you count ugly choppiness.
it's enjoyable on some games, yes, but throwing around words like that is only going to lead to more confusion + dissatisfied customers.

Well, for me I got full speed without sound on FS 3 or 4, which isn't ugly choppiness.

I meant to say pc engine sorry, and I know it does have its own emulators like snes9x (is that what its called?). But is it easy to set up the pc engine and put emulators on it?

Frame skip 3 or 4 does not mean full speed, Frame skip 0 is full speed. :)

Trooper
When I said full speed, I didn't mean FS 0. When I say full speed I mean the emu running at full speed on a FS. Like if you had the real snes running full speed and an emu running full speed at FS 3, then if you turned both on at the same time and had them play the same game, they would always be in the same point in the game. It runs at full speed at a certain frameskip. That's why I say full speed at FS 3 or 4.

PC-Engine emulator (called GPengine) is super easy to set up.
the application goes in the GPMM folder (just liek all the other apps) and all the roms (can be zipped, which is great!) go in GPMM\GPENGINE

as usual make sure all the filenames are 8 letters max with 3 letter extension or it will give you "invalid filename" error when writing to GP32.

compatibility is great (though still not perfect, but close enough for most people not to care!) and a future release will support wireless mutliplayer! Not that I know anyone else with a (*@#&!*@# GP32!!!

this is probably the best emu available on this system if you ask me, for the time being (this, or the NES one..) Hopefully Genesis or Mame will step up to par pretty soon, we'll see.

Ralp99 forgot to mention that currently saving doesn't work, however, it might be working in the next versionm

I find the Snes9x emu runs great..

I have the 156mhz version running at fs 3 and it works
near perfect.. even sound can be used in most games
without a big difference. Plus the save sdram saves the
day when playing Zelda :p

the only problem being..

at 156mhz the batteries run down pretty quick!
