    The Absolute State of Linux

That's probably the best possible outcome. Just focus on what matters and not to get dragged into the whole "US vs THEM" attitude.

    The Absolute State of Linux

Oh boy... I participate a lot in a different community which is having similar issues but with one slight difference: the left is majority. Still the parallels here and there are just uncanny. It's almost like a copy&paste of the same discussions with a some of the subjects changed. But why...

PGS Windows 10 gaming handheld - GPD WIN competitor

Sounds more like they don't have any team at all anymore, hence the need to look for a new team. Of course, that's just pure speculation. :)

How does the Pyra install the OS?

Wasn't it possible to boot (or flash NAND at least) from SD card on Pandora even without working OS in the NAND? (ie. unbrickable feature) I think it's done by holding a different button combination during start up. I'm guessing Pyra should be similar.

    SUGGESTION: Hold mode

From what I've heard some of those simply have different value resistors inline with the different switches.

    SUGGESTION: Hold mode

I kinda like the HOLD switch on Pandora, prevents the screen from being waked-up while it's closed (and thus wasting battery + unnecessarily heating up). I'm not sure, but does the SoC wake up when buttons are pressed? That's another potential reason I use the HOLD switch.

    Hardware 2 pandoras dying.

On the non-charging Pandora, check the output of dmesg while trying to charge. I saw some error messages there when my Pandora was having problems charging, might give some clues.

    "Smach Z is Back!" ...?

Would be nice if they offered a less power hungry alternative SoC at some point. Like the Atom GPD Win has (although that's somewhat power hungry itself). I personally don't care for the max performance approach they are taking. It's a handheld, not a desktop PC. A SoC which runs at cool temps...

    expensive?

Ok, okay. Things being cheaper due to automation is a good thing indeed, specially for things which are a necessity (ie. food, clothes, household appliances, cars, etc). But I also value a lot niche products which target the specific interests I have. The mass-market products (which are cheap...

    expensive?

The race to the bottom doesn't benefit anyone in the end. The end result of that road are devices which all are nearly identical (ie. the optimal cost VS value ratio) except for brand, or some minor gimmick.

    Nintendo Switch

Perhaps they said that to make it clear it's not like Wii U. Still, the seamless display switching seems like a huge technical challenge to overcome if there's indeed extra processing power in the dock (is video card hotswapping a thing?).

    expensive?

I remember back when I first ran into the Open Pandora project. I was simply looking for some handheld device which could play chiptune format music like Audacious could on my Linux PC. Music still one of the main uses I give Pandora. Anyway, I searched and searched and there was simply nothing...

    Nintendo Switch

I was thinking more of a air output vent on the dock which aligns with a corresponding air duct on the Switch device itself. Think laptop cooling pads but more tightly integrated (and hopefully not as noisy). The heatsink on the device would need to be really good though, to transfer heat...

    Nintendo Switch

I'm personally hoping that the dock has some cooling fans or some other aid to thermal dissipation. Isn't heat one of the big limiting factors for devices like N.Switch, NVidia Shields, etc? If the GPU is beefy enough to drive HD resolution TV (and that's a big if) then the other limitations...

    Jumping into ARM assembly

3221225472 is C0000000 in hex which interpreted as a signed integer is actually -1073741824 which is <10 (negative because highest bit is set).

    Jumping into ARM assembly

Here's what the syscall function does with that: cmn r0, #4096 it cc RETINSTR(cc, lr) b PLTJMP(syscall_error) Which if I understand correctly means you got an error code from the syscall. :)

Why is USB 3 port type micro B?

Search for USB 3.0 OTG cable. Some examples: https://www.tethertools.com/product/tetherpro-usb-3-0-micro-otg-adapter/ https://sewelldirect.com/usb3-micro-otg-cable-white It is important that the cable claims to be USB OTG (On-the-go), as OTG cables have special wiring which tells the device...

Why is USB 3 port type micro B?

From what I understand USB Type-C cable is a bit more complicated than previous cables. Which can end up causing problems: https://www.cnet.com/news/usb-type-c-cable-problems/ http://www.theverge.com/2016/2/4/10916264/usb-c-russian-roulette-power-cords Guess making sure to buy only cables...
