Release 3.2 kernel issue tracking thread

Is there any way to bring gamepad/game controller support to the new kernel?
They should be supported, can you post dmesg output? Also, how are you testing/using the pads?

I'm not sure how to post dmesg output...how do I do this?

I am testing by scanning for devices within PCSX ReARMed, PicoDrive, and qjoypad. In the old kernel, all three of these programs detect and function with no problem, but in the new kernel none of these programs detect any gamepad present.

Here it is:

...and this is the error message I get with qjoypad:

No joystick devices are currently available to configure.

Please plug in a gaming device and select "Update Joystick Devices" from the popup menu.

No matter what I try, I can't get it to recognize the controller. I am plugged in through a 7-Port high-speed USB hub.

Hmh, no driver is interested in your controller, does it work on recent Linux PC distro?

Could you run "lsmod" after booting the old kernel?

Here is "lsmod":

Did you try to connect the gamepad to a hub first, then plugging the hub in?

Notaz: WizardStan told me to post this here (from a thread I posted in the Support forum)

----

I've got one of the 256MB units... and am running the Super Zaxxon firmware.

If I "shutdown" the unit, how long should the battery last?

I shut it down on Sunday, and plugged it in today.... it booted it upon plug in and showed 75% battery life...

but the internal clock/date was a day and a half behind (they were set correctly before I shut it down).

Any ideas?

thanks,

Christopher.

No, it shouldn't. It also shouldn't be losing 25% in just a few days. I haven't done extensive tests with 3.2, but I remember leaving my Pandora off for exactly 10 days and extrapolating that out to approximately 3 months when I first got mine. The clock also kept perfect time during those days.

To be sure, open a terminal and type first "date" and then "hwclock". The first command displays the software clock, the second displays the hardware clock. They should be the same. Or they should be different by timezone, I forget, I keep messing with my clocks. If the hardware clock is correct and just the software clock is wrong, then we need to file a bug report. If the hardware clock is wrong, then there is something even more peculiar going on. -- WizardStan

Just did that right now: (10:35pm EST)

date

Thu Jul 19 22:35:14 EDT 2012

hwclock

Fri Jul 20 02:35:18 2012 0.000000 seconds

The hardware clock is fine. The software clock was not brought to sync when it booted up. Very odd. It used to. Post this into the 3.2 kernel thread in the beta forum, see if Notaz has any idea what's up. When I get a chance I'll check it myself to confirm.-- Wizardstan

No, this was my mistake. I was tired and not completely paying attention when I was trying to help. Both those clocks are fine as they are. There does seem to be something odd going on with the clock, but I'll have to wait a couple days to figure it out.

I found two "problems":

  • I've created a tool that lets users create pnds consisting of dos games bundled with a dosbox build. The pnds aren't mountable with the new kernel (error msg: "wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop0, missing codepage or ...", dmesg says "SQUASHFS error, unable to read id index table"), but work fine with the old kernel
  • I tried to create a Ad-Hoc Network with Xfces Network Manager frontend (a simple one with no security). After the dialog box closed itself, Network Manager tries to connect to it and freezes the system after 4 or 5 seconds (reset needed). With the old kernel Network Manager tries to connect to it two times and fails then, but the system doesn't freeze

You couldn't possibly add the gspca_ov534 module? It's for the Playstation Eye USB webcam. The gspca_main module seems to be in the firmware already. Would be awesome to use my webcam with the Pandora :D

I know, not nice bumping my own aches, but notaz where there any package updates regarding mount / squashfs (or anything else that could be related) in the last 3-4 months ?. I currently trying to get this problem sorted out, I'm also in contact with one of the guys that wrote the library I'm using

Well the kernel part has obviously changed since it got some development in mainline tree. How are those PNDs created exactly, mksquashfs? Maybe it's using some older file format that got dropped in the new kernels, and updating creation tools would help? Do you have some sample pnd files with that problem?

I'm currently "on the road" only accompanied by my Pandora, so I can't provide a special sample right now. But you can look in here and create your own sample, or look at the attachment of this post to get one.

Thanks for looking into this.

Edit: The squashfs container ist created with a .Net library (.Net Discutils)
