I made "Tunar" and "Oh! The Humanity!" and now I am finishing "Retrovirus RTS", an original real-time strategy game for the gp2x. September 1st 2006.

Watch out...Everything I've ever said "Coming Soon" to has failed miserably, whereas other projects have succeeded. So in the words of Hollywood, "Break a leg!".

Or, rather, the words of theatre for hundreds of years.

Aaanyway! It's great to see that more people are working on RTSes for the GP2X! It'll be interesting to see what kind of a game design you've worked out for it.

Perhaps there should be a subcategory in the Community Game Contest: Best Game Named "RetroVirus".

Like inferno said, any screens?
And is it an RTS or something else?
If it's something else, who cares?
If anything, you could always rename it.

I know its not the biggest of deals, but i would rather not rename it, the whole (tedious and flimsy) story hinges upon the retrovirus machine.

Its not an RTS (as you can see) but it could still get confusing since the games have nothing to do with one another.

I've been working on this puzzle for some years now, there is even a gba version of the game that i release some time ago. This is a complete overhaul for the gp2x.

gba retro-virus

Both games look great! But since thos_thom seems to have been there a wee bit longer with the name, I think it would be in dodgyville's best interest to try something new. ;)

Man, I cannot wait to play either... *dashes to the archive*

Ace work, both of you. I am interested in seeing more, Dodgyville.

No, the world of homebrew is too small for us to be fighting over names, don't change it on my account. There is room enough for the both of us.

I look forward to playing Retro-Virus RTS

Tell me a little about it, will it be as it seems, at the cellular level? If so will you be playing the virus, the body or the retro-virus?

Thos_thom, thank-you for your generous offer to share the name, I was genuinely touched. Your game looks like it will be a lot of fun and I look forward to playing it.

I see no harm looking for an alternative name, in fact, if anyone on the board has a suggestion I would love to hear it.

What I liked about [R]e[T]roviru RTS was the aliteration(?) and symmetry of the title, so new titles will be looked upon favourably if they match that.

About the gameplay:
The game is indeed set at the cellular level, but I make no claim to being medically accurate.

Basically - an alien virus has invaded a body infecting cells. You play a doctor who uses a scanner to inject retroviruses into "good" cells to mutate them into specialised cells or to upgrade them.

I suppose other title suggestions could possibly be:
RNA RTS
DNA RTS
strange condition rts
Cell Fever RTS
The Frantabulous, Crantankerous Infection of Gustav Beyer
Strange Patient RTS
dioxin rts

Any other variations would be good.

Regards,
Luke

Sounds like a good concept :)

I'd like the name 'Cell Fever', without the 'rts' or 'The Frantabulous, Crantankerous Infection of Gustav Beyer'. On the other side, 'RetroVirus Rts' would be great as well, just probably will be a little bit confusing since there'll be the 'RetroVirus' puzzle game as well. But since thos_thom wouldn't mind it if you would use it, that's pretty much your decision.

Whatever you choose, good luck with your rts! And goodluck to thos_thom as well, looks like a game that could get me addicted :)
