Covid-19 (Coronavirus) - Please stay safe, y'all

California just announced indefinite lockdowns as well I think? Imagine not only have renters but having an indefinite lockdowns while still having to pay a mortgage?

we're in a catch-22 situation, but only because we reject "socialism" (government safety nets, or UBI, or whatever). we need the lockdowns to prevent the spread of the virus and the pointless death (where it's particularly bad, no ICU capacity), but paying rent and buying food costs money (and how will you make it if you don't go to work).

a capitalism-only approach doesn't help here...

[edit] i wonder if someone more skilled than i can quantify the effects of all the lost life (and lost future productivity) and see how that would have compared to a $1k / month for every person in the country...

Denied on the chinese virus request. I appreciate the request, but there is nothing racist about it. You are part of the professional class, I reject your value system wholesale because your value system is classist.

EDIT #4: Just thinking about your request a little more, a proposal: I won't allow your value system to control my thoughts nor to put words in my mouth just as I would never accept anyone on our side (common class) to control your thoughts or put words in your mouth.

However, if you can make a good case for why it is racist, I will be happy change how I refer to the virus. I would be happy to offer you the deference to make your point if you like.
You don't ask a mod to come up with less racist terms for you. That's up to you.

Ible, first watch todays Timcast: https://odysee.com/@TimcastIRL:8/timcast-irl-california-announces:1

Serendipitously they are talking about this exact thing today.

Obviously, I disagree on a few levels. But, let's just say you are 100% correct. How do you propose that money supply be created and managed? Who will create money and manage it? Also, how do you propose prices for goods be set if we cannot have supply and demand?

Note: just to put all the cards on the table, the answer is we aren't in the catch-22 situation that you think we are in. The answer is open everything up and stop worrying because the CDC numbers tell us that the same number of people will die this year as last year, there is no pandemic. South Dakota is totally open and they just announced a budget surplus this year. The catch-22 that you should be worried about is the huge economic and monetary problems we are running into as a result of many things but ESPECIALLY the lock downs.

The first hour of the podcast will outline the key issues for you properly. They are surprisingly succinct and clear about describing how the monetary system works and the key control points to think about.

Wrong. I already know the answer. I'm curious if he does. Or you for that matter.

Here is the answer: look up the definition of racism and see for your self.

EDIT: I had no idea they were a mod. Why would that matter? They are human, just like everyone else.

You know the most obnoxious president in the world calls it the "China Virus" which is pretty insulting to the entire Chinese population..

I have no idea why you'd think otherwise :)

:)

Define racism.

Now define insult.

See the difference?

What you are missing is that this isn't even an insult to the Chinese. Insults cannot be given, insults can only be taken. The Chinese are not insulted by that because they don't care what we think. Moreover, Trump uses the term as a framing device for future negotiating tactics, which is correct. I used it to insult the professional class sensibilities.

I do appreciate the point. I will honestly change the terminology if you can fully explain how the label "chinese virus" is racist. Not because I care, but because I am very motivated to not do anything to damage EDs ability to grow his business to 10 000 units first and then on to 100 000.

I don't know why I should even explain it, if they called it the "Canada Virus" i'm sure you'd be upset because it makes the entire population of Canada look shit.

If this continues i'll just delete this thread and we can forget about it completely. Nobody should have to explain how to behave in public.

You are completely insane. Why would Canadians care what Australians think?

LOL.

Typical professional class talking point nonsense. You don't know the meaning of words and you assume you have a clue how Candians would think or feel. You aren't Canadian, you have no clue how we would react, think or feel.

You know what is racist? THAT is racist. You assume something about my race. How dare you.

See how that works? :)

Look, why don't we get to the brass tacks here.

You don't have a problem with the thread, you have a problem with me. Delete my posts as far back as you want.

At least we know your true colours.

All good.

Now we're on the same page, you can see my point about saying "China Virus" and how it's racist because you're assuming the ENTIRE chinese population has spread the virus which is not true. Chinese people are amazing people, i've been to China and enjoyed their hospitality.

You know Australia and Canadians are pretty alike, we're even part of the Commonwealth. I think you're the one with a problem here as there's been a lot of people reporting your posts in general for the snarky / misinformed and often false and / or misleading remarks.

Not a single thing you just wrote suggests that you either read or understood anything that I wrote.

It's not racist, because definition.

It's not insulting because only the Chinese can decide that. And they don't care.

This is a beautiful example about the professional class. You don't care what is true. You don't care that words actually have specific meaning. You cannot accept that you can even be wrong. I have asked you to explain how the term is racist and you cannot (but of course you cannot, it isn't and cannot be racist).

100% of everything that you have posted is you feeling sorry on behalf of another group of people. I treat and speak about the Chinese like human beings and like equals. Honest, to the point, I let them decide if something is insulting. You treat the Chinese like your personal purse puppies. The reason that you feel sorry on behalf of the Chinese is because that is where your professional class derives it's self wroth. You feel good about your self BECAUSE you feel sorry on behalf of another group of people.

You don't let people speak for them selves and you don't trust them to be able to make value judgements for them selves. Every fibre of your being is wrapped up in a dire need to coddle and treat specfic races of humans as children. Your entire cultural class does that with black people here in North America.

Did I get that right? I did, didn't i. See, the thing about this conversation is that it is your professional class that is racist (EDIT: actually it's mostly authoritarian BECAUSE you neither understand why or how you are being racist as a class and you react harshly at the slightest suggestion that you are, but the racism is still there alongside narcisim)

The Chinese don't need your paternalistic coddling.
