Looking forward to receiving my pandora through; I was wondering is there going to be any desktop software for managing content ?

just from previous experience of emulators and such , harddrives can get messy.

It's assumable that with whatever desktop environment chosen will come with a file manager. Like, Nautilus, Dolphin, Thunar, Rox, or whatever (These are only for example, of course I know that it's unlikely that Nautilus will be the chosen filemanager). You can also fire up a terminal and go old school on it. :p

So make sure you keep it clean from the outset!

Seriously, though, installing apps will be a simple case of copying them to where you want them to be on your SD card. A little thought to the structure of said card, before you start installing apps can make all the difference. For Example, a typical layout I might use would be this:

{Emulators}
.....{DOSbox}
.....{MAME}
.....{SquidgeSNES}
.....{UAE}
.....{VICE}

{Games}
.....{Platform}
..........{Wacky Jumpy Man 3}
..........{OpenJazz}
..........{Pleng's RCG}

.....{Shooters}
..........{Doom}
.....{Racing}
..........{OpenDaytona}
..........{Sega Rally OS Edition}

{Internet}
.....{Firefox}
.....{Thunderbird}

{Productivity}
.....{GIMP}

Luckily starting off from a clean machine to!

if there isn't anything planned, might have a tinkle at putting something together, some sort of tagging affair.

Not a problem for me. I don't even use My Documents on my Windows machines, but organize it all myself because i'm anal like that. <_<
