I know that sometime in the dim & distant past mcobit made a DVB-T dongle work with his pandora, and I think I read that there may be some drivers on the current OS.

Does anyone know:

  • Whether such receivers could also receive DAB(+)?
  • Which dongles are/could be supported?
  • How hard it would be to get things working?

F_Slim mentioned something about getting a TV-stick working here, if that's of any help.

Thanks! Why doesn't this forum have an 'invite member to public thread' button? I might PM him <_< :)

I'd imagine it would be pretty slow. Playing video and (whatever the correct word is) the transmission.

Mcobit had some luck with getting it working on a Europe Setup: http://boards.openpandora.org/index.php?/topic/404-dvb-t-tv-on-pandora/

I recently updated some info that may help getting a US ATSC tuner working: http://boards.openpandora.org/index.php?/topic/404-dvb-t-tv-on-pandora/page__view__findpost__p__132626

It seemed plenty fast on stations that were lower than 1080p, but seemed choppy on true 1080p channels.. My XV / Hardware SDL output isn't working properly.. I need to reflash to fix it.. so It may be faster when it's properly functioning..

How fiddly were drivers etc?

Mine wasn't as bad as what mcobit had to go through.. I have a Hauppauge WINTV-HVR-1950.. It's not exactly a dongle, but it is a USB 2.0 High speed device.. So I just needed to install the supporting DVB-T software, add the firmware file to the appropriate directory and it just worked..

I haven't played with the new kernel at all.. so not sure if that broke anything.

I haven't tried it.. It does have an FM tuner.. I know there is a new version of smplayer with radio support.. I can give it a try when I get home from work..
