So the recovery software runs...just like the manual describes I get SUCESS and all...Then i reboot and hold start and select and when it says upgrading i let go...then it goes to the green loading screen (2.0)...and stays there FOREVER...

can someone please help me out with this...this is what was happening and why I got the BoB to fix it but it doesn't seem like anything has changed...

I have a log of the recovery program...here I'll post it:

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm wondering whats going on now...anything helps.

Before I try to help you, your GP2X is bricked for now, correct. All you have to do is reinstall the firmware properly using a card reader and hold start and select and its unbricked. As far as the breakout box goes I can't help you with that.

When I hold down Start and Select I get the upgrading firmware screen....then it goes to the green loading screen (which says 2.0), but it never gets past this green loading screen...fresh batteries and I'm using the same 256mb SD card that I've sucessfully flashed it before with...I've got a first edition if that makes any difference....

Well a first edition is what I got and i used the card reader to unbrick it, the break out box method is more for developers for like testing. In my opinion.

More info...

I've sucssefully downgraded the firmware to 1.4...but it does the same thing it gets to the green loading screen and never goes beyond that. Is this a NAND problem?

Hm............ this isnt a NAND problem its more like installing the firmware properly. When upgrading use a DC adapter for the GP2X, very important. See http://www.gp2x.com/ for instructions.

Ok, since I downgraded to 1.4, Im getting the firmware v2 screen and it no longer advances to even the green loading screen...but at least its doing something different at this point, even though its not getting as far...Im going to try to redo it fully to 2.0 again.

Did you hold Start and Select.

yes.

now since I've reupgraded to 2.0 Im once again getting as far as the green screen but thats it...no change.

I dont know what instructions your refering to?

I've upgraded the GP2x at least once before...Everything visual indicates that it should be working properly yet it doesn't continue beyond the green loading screen.

The one on http://gp2x.com but you probably have. Have you reformatted your SD card to FAT 32 yet? or is there anything on it beside 2.00 firmware?

I know when your trying to help someone out it could be that they are an idiot...however I can tell you that I've done this sucessfully before...

However when I tried to put 2.0 on I lost battery power and this problem started. But reflashing by holding down select and start doesn't fix the problem even though it tells me that its upgrading the firmware.

Yes the card is in Fat 32...I even reformatted it twice to see if that would fix things...the upgrades are working at least to some point as I can get the green loading screen to change to 1.4, but the initial boot screen always indicates firmware v2.

I'm not saying Im not an idiot i'm just saying that yes the card is fat32...next question

There is no next question, I think your GP2X is bricked for good because a loss of battery life when upgrading could break it as stated on their website. By the way, I dont think your an idiot, anybody could miss the smallest things like reformatting by accident. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it can be fixed but from what you just told me I dont think so.

Thats why I got the Breakout Board...and it does its thing as it should at least according to the instructions...but it still refuses to boot after that and a brand new firmware flash...so I guess I'll just have to wait and hope someone can offer some insight....I'm just about done...

From what I've read , it appears that getting stuck on the green loading screen could mean that my linux file system has become corrupted...I found an image for the file system for 1.0.0? I think however I dont think that will help with my 2.0 system...maybe I can downgrade the whole thing to 1.0.0 again and start from there?

Where can I get the image files for 1.0? or does someone have a never file system image for this?

Sorry if all this sounds really dense, I'm trying to be attentive about all this but I'm quite out of my knowledge range...

So if anyone has anything please let me know.

Ok, ummmm...

I'm a total idiot...I followed the procedures again and I missed out on something the first time around...Its fixed....please file this one away for posterity for biggest idiot ever and maybe you can flame me like were on Misetings...

But thanks you for your help dude!

Prepare to flame me.

After using the BoB I had to boot by pressing Start+Select on the next two boots...I confused the directions like a total noob I am...well at least now I learned a little something , even though it was at the expense of appearing like a total idiot! =)

THanks again dudes.
