Hi,

I would like to find  a  organizer (old or pref. new) that would have a low consumption, with 2 x AAA, and a LCD display to be installed Linux.

For instance, here, I run debian on the psion 5mx. But this one is much to heavy and big.

In my opinion, the ideal organizer would have such a weight.

open

138 w x 160 d x 9 h mm

closed

138 w x 80 d x 17 h 33

160-170g max including batteries

Would you know any that would accept Linux on it?

Thanks

I love the HTC Universal aka the Qtec9000.

You can run our loved Angstrom Linux on it :)

Its relative tiny, have a good keyboard, the Windows CE part can play PSX Games, wlan,SD,Phone,Internet underway, many CE Games and a native Linux.

Angstrom Linux on the HTC Universal work little buggy but work fine :)

Edit:

And there existiert 4500 mah Accu for it.

A USB OTG is on there to for using USB Mouses.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but it is cheap, small, open and has a keyboard. (I have read it could run debian)

Or... you could wait for ED to sell some broken Pandora's again (cheapest he sold recently was 120 E with broken touch screen and broken wifi). I bought one too and it is now a dedicated PIM tool with emacs/org mode.

I just checked on Ebay but no nanonote sold currently :(

Well, for instance, I had a revo from Psion also, but, it did not last very long. Those devices are old (from ebay), used, and they are not brand new :(

what about the idea of installing Linux on a simple Psion Revo?

Ar e the Psion Revo reliable (i.e. shock resistant) devices?  Unfortunatly it has no usb nor ethernet ... :(

The raspberry would be an interesting solution, but it might be even if smaller too big and heavy for a small size <200 grammes palm (pda)

would you eventually know other light palms ( pdas) ?

The sharp Zaurus sl-3xxx series would fit the bill, except that they use a rechargeable battery, not AAA.
In my quest for the perfect companion working anywhere is resuming...

Keyboard is one of the most important point. (ex: http://boards.openpandora.org/topic/15055-expert-in-pdas-keyboards-wish-for-a-psion-5-keyboard//URL])

The "HTC Universal aka the Qtec9000" looks to have not a great keyboard if you would like to type long documents.

The sharp Zaurus sl-3xxx series have better keyboard than the Pandora, but not so good as a Psion 5. Well, can I work with one 3xxx?

Not really, the keyboard is still too small to be used for a long long time (wihtout getting tired of  typing).

I can type many hours with a psion 5

I have just found that the following device has a cool keyboard  and could be a nice replacement to the Pandora, which has not a very comfortable keyboard as  a mini pc (thats normal since it is much smaller):

what about this one? One happy owner?

The vaio P serie 8"" looks quite nice too:

Sony is a good brand.

P Sony vaio looks a quite perfect tiny office.

It's no replacement for a Pandora. sure it's small, can run windows, possible Linux to some extent. but can I game on it easy without extra peripherals nope.. what is the battery life like? it's most likely not that good.

I can argue that touch typing on that may be a little easier, but nothing that small will give a perfect typing experience. The Pandora was designed around thumb typing, people should accept that.

the op is not asking for gaming, only for linux, keyboard and LCD...

If weight is an issue, maybe someone should make a 1500mAh or so battery for the Pandora instead of the 4200mAh one it has now. Since that is where most of the weight goes, it could be an interesting trade-off between battery life and weight. Maybe you could bring the weight down from 320g to 200g, reducing the battery life from 20h to 7h.
