Rolling Thunder is one of my favorite games emulated by MAME but I am tearing my hair out trying to get it to work on the GP2X version. I see it listed as a supported game and I am using what I am convinced is the correct dump of the ROM (it came from an old 035 backup CD I have) but it fails to load. I have also tried 2 other versions of the ROM that I found on the net and they both fail to load as well.
Can anyone tell me if this game does actually work with GP2X MAME? I've checked the Compatibility Status table on the Wiki site but it's not listed there as tested or otherwise.
It would be nice to know if I'm wasting my time trying to get it working of if I just have to track down the right version of the ROM.
Thanks.

YES, it runs! I also had the same problem as you with the roms for Rolling Thunder. Even when the roms have been properly cleared with ClrMame for the version that is supposed to work in GP2X Mame, it seems that you won't get a proper set. The trick I followed was:

1- Find a list of the ROM file names and sizes required for Rolling Thunder in GP2X Mame. Here is it (sizes in bytes):

512 rt1-1.bin
512 rt1-2.bin
2.048 rt1-3.bin
2.048 rt1-4.bin
32.768 rt1-5.rom
16.384 rt1-6.rom
65.536 rt1-7.rom
32.768 rt1-8.rom
65.536 rt1-9.rom
65.536 rt1-10.rom
65.536 rt1-11.rom
65.536 rt1-12.rom
65.536 rt1-13.rom
65.536 rt1-14.rom
65.536 rt1-15.rom
65.536 rt1-16.rom
65.536 rt1-17.rom
65.536 rt1-18.rom
4.096 rt1-mcu.bin
32.768 rt3-1b.rom
32.768 rt3-2b.rom
32.768 rt3-3.rom
32.768 rt3-4.rom
65.536 rt3-19.rom
65.536 rt3-20.rom

You'll see that any of your sets has missing files. Start with the set that mostly matches the list above.

2- Try to start Rolling Thunder in GP2X Mame with that set. It will complain on a missing file.

3- Try to find the proper file based on the file size, either in the same set on in others. Rename that file in order to match the name expected by GP2X Mame and copy it to your set.

4- Try to start Rolling Thunder now. If it complains in the same file, then you have choosen the wrong one. Go back to step 3. If it complains on a different file, then that's good, you're again at step 2. Repeat until Rolling Thunder loads.

Once you can load it then you must ensure that the setting is as Franxis said. Otherwise the machine will lock up just after boot.

Good luck!
