I would participate in music competitions, at least occasionally.

I've used LMMS for recent tracks (http://ible.bandcamp.com/album/lmms-oceanside), and would be happy to share the source files.

I've also released a piano DDR-style game / Vim-like composing tool, which plays/edits MIDI files (https://github.com/lowagner/pyanoh3ro). I'd be happy to include people's MIDI files in the library, for others to learn or edit.

I think a bit more interesting of a solution is to try and have project ideas posted, and have people sign up for 'roles' for particular projects.  So, instead of relying on an individual developer to do something in a time period, make it a number of small groups.  The advantage of this is it'd give those with less experience in all the areas the ability to contribute, which would help them gain experience.  Another advantage is we'd likely see better things come out of these competitions, and projects in general, because there's more people working on it.

It would probably be difficult to combine several programmers on one project, but different people for sound and graphics is a nice idea, but then it wouldn't really be suitable for a competition imo. Anyway, it dosnt seem like theres much interest at all, I have given up on the idea already, Im thinking of making a thread for my game and have it like open for anyone who wants to do anything to do so, Ill make placeholder textures that can be replaced for ex, I won't do music for this game but if someone would want to do that it would be cool. Ill make a thread for it when I have next test build done.
