HI

This is my first post. Just wanted to say great that you are working on it again would love to have a Emu Frontend for the Pandora that would be just perfect!

What I wanted to know is will Zib be skinnable? The skin looks quite nice but it could be a bit more polished. I could help if you want to? Just let me know what format and size the pictures need to be. I made once a skin for a Media player you can see it here:

http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=20069

So if you like it I could make something similar for this app!

Cheers

Not trying to detract from Zib, but is there anything getting in the way of porting Wah!cade to Pandora? As far as I can tell, it is a nice looking universal open source frontend for Linux. I used the search function and I see one other person mentioned it, but nobody responded.

Possible?

If you're using Firefox I recommend this plugin: CODE

Looks nice Flam, very nice!

That seems to be a MAME frontend. Zib is going to be an emulator frontend - you choose the ROM from within Zib and it launches the correct emulator with the appropriate settings and the ROM starts. It will (theoretically) support all emulators launched on the Pandora, not just MAME.

No, it does run other emulators besides MAME too. It's a Linux-compatible clone of MameWah and will play SNES, DosBox, Playstation, Genesis, N64, etc.

Here are some pictures of MameWah showing all the different emulation possibilities.

I see no reason why Wah!Cade wouldn't work, especially since it is open source and can be tweaked for the Pandora.

I'm sure you'll have it fixed when you're done, but why is everything mis-sized/mis-positioned?

:p

Hi

I made a small preview just so you can see how I would like it to look like. Let me know your Opinions:

The graphics are not mine so if this should be released I'll need to get the permission.

Cheers

This is a really great idea, and I'm really impressed with how it is shaping up so far. :D

Alright, so I have some suggestions:

I was thinking that pushing the action button to bring up the sidebar then hitting play seems like a needless extra button push for 99% of the time. I would prefer pushing once for instant play and holding 1-2 seconds to bring up the menu. This would also translate well for selecting with the stylus.

Thoughts?

I don't know how MameWah/Wah!Cade work internally, but depending on implementation, there could be one major issue. If they have these additional emulators built into the program, they have no use for us, as we would need to port all of those emulators. That would just be reinventing the wheel, and wouldn't help at all. If they utilized a modular/configurable way to run the emulators/ROMs, they could be useful. This aside, I think there's a decent amount of stuff going into Zib that they don't have - especially what seems to be automatically finding and configuring emulators that have been installed on the Pandora.

I like that style a lot. So this is (intended to be) a skin for ZiB?

@Tiptup300
Formating issues are low on my list at the moment. I need to make sure everything is (working) before I worry to much more about the look but I know it looks bad presently. What I would like from you however is directions on how to format the settings pages. I need to know how you would like the overall motif. otherwise I'm going to have to recycle elements from other parts of the program.

@Flam
The program will be skin-able at a later date, but I want to get it out there, gauge response, and then continue developing the program in the direction the response provides.

@musicalwoods
I agree with you and I will be working on input options sometime soon. I had to purchase a usb joypad to help with the mapping. I will see what I can do about the press and hold options.

@All

Good things come to those who wait. And as far as I can tell we still have a ways to wait. All will be resolved by the time we have a Pandora to use it on.

Thank you for your support and patience.

Yeah I would love to be able to make this a skin for Zib, I'd do also other skins once it's possible.

Thanks, I understand that just thought since the Pandora won't be in our hands till April/May we'll have some more time . If you have a working build of Zib I think you could release it for others to test even thought no one has a Pandora yet. So you could get responses before the release of the Pandora?

Also how will it work with the database? We could already start getting some entries on it?

It will not use an external database program like mysql or postgres but rather it will store all the information about the games in a central db file that can be updated by the user by adding or subtracting information form the cells.

The final product will work thusly

Main game list.db --> Downloaded configs-->user created configs-->Gamelist

ZiB accesses the Gamelist once for the entire time your using it (unless you rebuild the list of course).

If you are offering your time Flam I would be happy to send you a template file that is imported into the db file so you can add stuff to it.
