Hi,

ED told me he may remove pidgin from the base OS, so I started a new PND. This is early packaging.
It have gtkspell disabled (as the one in the base OS it seems)

feedback/requests welcome

This topic is about the PND and it's testing, please try to stay on topic :)

does the pnd'd version of pidgin still have the freezing issue 98?

I don't know myself. it may be related to any of these or not.

Some reports on this PND abilities would be cool.
I tried irc this morning and it seems to work, but what about the other protocols ?

I take that as bad news that he's considering removing it, I loved Pidgin on my Pandora and was hoping to use it when my replacement arrives.

It's being removed from the NAND and has already been turned into a PND. You can still use it, it just means you have to install it on your SD card (or into the PND section of NAND, if you really want to, but it's being removed from NAND to save space, so that kind of defeats the purpose)

ICQ works flawlessly and the different encoding bug is gone (didn't display whole message, when the other person uses öäüß).

GREAT!

Thx for the updated pidgin.pnd!

Can you please tell me how I can get rid of the old pidgin on the NAND? I removed /usr/pandora/mmenu/pidgin.pnd but the pidgin link in 'Network' still exists and I can still start the old version of pidgin.
If you happen to know: where are the saved settings of the old pidgin stored? Can I move them to the SD card to be used by your updated pidgin?

Thx again! :)

Ok, do this instead:
Code:
 sudo opkg --force-depends remove pidgin
 sudo opkg --force-depends remove pidgin-data
 sudo opkg --force-depends remove libpurple
 sudo opkg --force-depends remove libpurple-plugin-ssl
 sudo opkg --force-depends remove libpurple-plugin-ssl-gnutls
 sudo opkg --force-depends remove libpurple-protocol-aim
 sudo opkg --force-depends remove libpurple-protocol-icq
 sudo opkg --force-depends remove libpurple-protocol-irc
 sudo opkg --force-depends remove libpurple-protocol-msn
 sudo opkg --force-depends remove libpurple-protocol-xmpp
 sudo opkg --force-depends remove libpurple-protocol-yahoo
That definitely takes care of everything.

About, config & data my PND seems to still use those stored on NAND for no obvious reason :(

Also something about right clicking and choosing "delete" on the menu item, or something like that.

/home/<username>/.purple
copy that into the pidgin appdata directory on your SD card and it should work, I think.

ahh, good thing I got Synergy working, copy and pasting the uninstall-lines from my desktop machine to the Pandora is just a charm! Goodbye Pidgin 2.63! Thank you Sebt3!

To "fix" the Pidgin sound crash bug without turning off sounds, do the following:
Tools menu->Preferences->Sounds tab
set "Method" to "Command", and in the "Sound Command" box type "mplayer -ao oss %s"
May need to be "-ao alsa" or "-ao sdl" depending on other things. Can someone try with different MP3 players in the background?

I don't have my Pandora to hand right now, but I know that Pidgin and Deadbeef really don't get along, so that's a good audio player to test it against.

This is definitely using the NAND for data storage.

I removed Pidgin from NAND and have been using the PND ever since, however after having some problems (see I need help section) I decided to clear the contents of the appdata directory. I loaded up Pidgin and it still had all my signin details, preferences etc...

This was the main point of this PND :(
Could you please at least tell me that the data goes on the appdata ?
EDIT: Config and data (as chat logs etc) are 2 differents things since the xdg definition.

Should be fixed with my last update to 2.7.7 (same download link)
