I am connected to the internet through a wired network to our main pc, which has broadband. Once i have finished on this pc at night, i am supposed to go downstairs and turn off the other computer. in an incredibly lazy moment i wondered if there is a way to shut down that other computer through this pc?

Well, any ideas?

Thanks :D.

or you can use the energy savings setting to make it automatically shut down/go to sleep after 3/5/10 minutes of inactivity.

Thanks, will the "shutdown -m \\machinename" just work from a dos prompt? It doesnt seem to want to work. I replaced "machinename" with the other pcs network name, which is Jal and it just says bad command .

Edit: Sorry i have windows 98 se.

Im on XP and the computer thats on my network is on XP and that wont work either........ Anything else?

You have to enable remote shutdown on the computer you're trying to shutdown.

I believe the option is in MSConfig somewhere...
