Anyone fancy a go at porting this? It's GPL and there's already some source for the ARM processor (ipaq and zaurus). Sounds like it could be a fun tool to play with on a handheld!

Nice one, Cheers

I quickly compiled it, and the result is here:

Take the sbagen.gpe file and all of the .sbg files and pop them in a directory on your memory card. You need to use a script to launch the gpe file passing the sbg file as a parameter (or use the usb serial connection to launch it). I'll pop a Selector front end on later (and fix the broken ogg support).

wow this is an amazing app! I guess i will sleep much nicer now :D
I have never heard of anything like this! Has anyone else tried it successfully and experienced a relaxing effect already? I wonder if this really works...

Ace! That was bloody quick! Will give it a try!
I still haven't hooked up the selector, so bear in mind what I wrote earlier about creating a script or running it from the serial console.

I wasn't sure there was enough interest to spend any more time on it, but I'll try to fit it in this week, since you seem keen :)

I think that this is a brilliant little gadget actually! I used to sleep to my nintendo DS with electro plankton on audience mode! I think this could be a nice tool to play around!

I wuld also be interested in seeing this program running nicely (and maybe a way to install it easily ;D!)

Can someone explain what exactly this program does. I've read through the site but it doesn't seem to make much sense to me

The theory behind binaural beats is that if you apply slightly different frequency sine waves to each ear, a beating affect is created in the brain itself, due to the brain's internal wiring. If, in the presence of these tones, you relax and let your mind go, your mind will naturally synchronize with the beat frequency. In this way it is possible to tune the frequency of your brain waves to particular frequencies that you have selected, using of the four bands: Delta - deep sleep, Theta - dreaming and intuitive stuff, Alpha - awake, focussed inside, Beta - awake, focussed outside.

It is also possible to produce mixtures of brain waves of different frequencies by mixing binaural tones, and in this way, with practice and experimentation, it is reportedly possible to achieve rather unusual states, such as out-of-body stuff, and more. See the books by Ken Eagle Feather, and the Monroe Institute site for more details. The Monroe Institute have apparently put 40 years of research into these techniques.

Above is for everyone to glance at, I feel it's fairly self explanatory. But to put it simply, it's a program designed to take advantage of human brain wiring, as it were, and use tones to set our brains into different 'modes'. (I must apologise for the terminology, but it's the best I can adlib at the time) Basically this means we can use the 2x as a sleeping aid, lucid dreaming aid, and maybe put one's self into altered states of conciousness if you believe in that stuff.

However, please note that you must be able to relax to allow the 'beats' to take effect on your brain. The idea is that beats play in seperate ears at different timings, and our brains 'fix' the beats to they are syncronized - and as this fix is made the brain switches into different modes of conciousness as a side effect.

Sorta like an optical illusion, but with a lot more after effect.

Hope I got this right. :)

Allan.

critical

don't rush it if it takes you away from UAE4All! I love that more!!

Thanks

Is there any way to set the volume? I want to try this now that I understand the theory behind it, but it's just too loud to sleep through.

has anyone made a selector config for this yet?
I want one badly. Please make it.

Edit: I made a selector config that shows sbg's, but when I select one, it goes back to the gp2x menu. Dang! I'll work on this.

This program is very interesting. I messed with the theta wave set last night for about a hour or so. I'm not sure if the tones are static, but I found once you really start listening all kinds of sonic patterns can take shape. It was kind of fun crawling around in the noise. Really trippy stuff to be sure. It may have been the placebo effect but I had some very vivid dreams after the session.

I'm really looking forward to the front end as well as volume control. At any rate, great stuff! Thanks for the fast port!

this stuff really works. After I listened to one of the focus sequences, I felt sharper for around 20 minutes. Then it wore off.

I had a spare bit of time, so I thought I'd update this as people were interested. Unfortunately, I can't use it myself at the moment, as my headphone socket is broken. I've tested the basic program functionality, however.

I've added volume control, a means to exit, and a file selector.

Vol -/+ control the volume (original stuff, this)
Start exits the program and returns you to the main GP2X menu
The selector is Kounch's work.

You need to put all the stuff (except for src.zip) into a directory called 'sbagen' in the root of your SD card.

Ogg support is still hosed... might look at that sometime if anyone's missing the calming sound of running water :)

The overclocking function is missing; I want to overclock my brain :D

Oh and here is the wikipedia link:

including:
Alleged dangers

Software providers creating packages for audio processing such as Adobe Audition (formerly Syntrillium Cool Edit Pro) do have disclaimers in their help materials stating that the use of brainwave synchronization by means of binaural beats can cause seizures and even death and that they will not be held responsible for injuries or deaths that occur as a result of the use of binaural beats.

 We are all going to diiiieeeeeee

The good think is, lots of stuff works when you believe in it :D
